CPM 14.9V is my limit! :D
I have good news then because 15V actually only has 14.5% vanadium.
Looks pretty weak on the toughness scale. Can you tell us what other steels rank similarly in toughness?
10V or S90V when they are really hard, probably. Rex 121 is about half as tough.

I'm more interested in thin blades, so the carbide-loaded steels typically aren't as interesting. If 15V has reasonable grain size, though, I'd go for a PM2, Yojimbo, Dodo or a Shaman.
I like blues and greys, I wouldn't spend $300 to get sculpted CF but $180 to get side-cut ("blackwood") CF would be an instant sale.

Made some improvements to the 15V heat treatment and have it in a knife.

The Hardness is at 64rc but the times and temps have been adjusted for stability. This is not in the specification sheet. The data sheet for CPM 15v Heat treatment is designed for parts not knives of course.
However the steel has alot of chemistry to play with.

The geometry is 15dps and 0.010" bte

The edge is 600 grit off a vitrified CBN waterstone and a 1um diamond strop.

The edge still has unrivaled aggression compared to other steels. Very sticky, really grabs and wants to slice like crazy.

I gave it some light torquing cuts on the brass

This HT is superior, it doesn't make it 4v. Just a better version of itself.

More testing to follow.

I plan on having the knife finished at the Eugene knife show if you guys wanna check it out.

Yes. My vote is for something the size of a pm2 or larger. Maybe a military. 15v seems to be best used for it's long lifetime of slicing ability/aggression, so I'd want a blade capable of longer draw cuts.

I would be all in for a PM2 in this stuff. Para3 too, even if I'm not a big fan of the short, stubby blade.

Another vote for a 15V Millie or PM2. I'd buy either (or both).

Your knives with thin evenly ground and surgical edge geometry should be a pleasure to use - for those willing to appreciate such feeling. btw - Don't let a guy - look like me - at Oregon Blade Show casually check your knives edge at your table, his thumb encrusted full of CBN :) Are you ready for the show?

Excellent, I'll email you the current HT I like.

Larrin has been doing great work and has built excellent curves with some pieces I sent him that he heat treated for Rockwell hardness test samples to show curves

Crucibles data sheet leaves more to be desired.

Hope to see you at the show next month.

I love this! Even if it's not a steel that is for me, it's great to see this kind of collaborative interaction.

If anyone can do it, Sal can. :)

A collaboration between BBB and Spyderco would make an excellent debut for CPM 15V. ;)

Crucible 15V:
Carbon 3.40%
Manganese 0.50%
Silicon 0.90%
Chromium 5.25%
Vanadium 14.50%
Molybdenum 1.30%
Sulfur 0.07%

With 14.5% vanadium its not surprising that 15V is extremely aggressive..S110V "only" has 9% Vanadium and Maxamet 6% Vanadium. 15V even has more Vanadium than S125V..S125V is at 12% Vanadium.
