A 15V folder... Sal has spoken and I’m now all ears.

Unfortunately this year is probably not going to happen a lot of work needs to be done first in sure but next year would be nice

Yea most likely, I'm just trying to hype myself :D I hope Spyderco goes with Shawn's desire for a nice, thin geometry, since people that will buy this will definitely be people knowing their way around the slicing purpose of such a steel and won't pry-bar anything with it.

"Can 15v have some flex at the blade?"

Good question, some folks think that a steel at 67-68hrc and 22% Vanadium carbide volume in the matrix will behave just like glass.

Well, it's still made of steel, the iron to iron Metallic bonds at the atomic level will still give 15v an elastic nature. It just won't have a plastic region beyond it's critical point, but will be much stronger and have a higher yield point than steels with a larger plastic area.

This is nice for folks that don't need the trade off for plastic ranges.

Great vid, can't wait to get my hands on some 15V. I know these things take time, but I'm very excited to see this collab come to fruition. If Spyderco put everything else they're working on, on hold until this was finished, I'd be ok with that :D

We'll have to do a pass around when I'm caught up.
I'm finding making stuff by hand takes a long time. Making things at volume is impossible. After Bladeshow West we'll have a test mule to pass around to guys on a list.

When can we expect a rough sketch of this design? Nothing set in stone obviously, just a few ideas Shawn/Sal are throwing around?

It's crazy to even pay attention to a project like this at this point in the process, knowing how long it will take to see production... But I can't help myself.

Great news,
What I really like about 15v is that it's pure MC type Vanadium carbide volume with no softer Tungsten/Molybdenum M6C Carbides like other PM tool steels.

Able to reveal the HRC on the CATRA sample or too soon?

Wow this is really exciting. I’m in.
This kind of stuff is exactly the reason why I joined team Spyderco! :spyder:

Since everyone else has thrown out what knife they’d like to see, may throw my suggestion out there?

How about a Para 3 with a straight edge blade?
(Wharncliffe, Tanto, sheepsfoot, straight razor, etc).

*A standard Para 3 would be amazing and an instant buy, just thought I’d spice it up with a straight edge. :D
