Mr. Wayne Goddard passes

#1

Post by sal »

I regret to inform you that Mr. Wayne Goddard has passed away. Wayne has been struggling for the past several years and is now gone. He has held a special place in Spyderco's heart for many years. He was a knife-maker, a blade-smith, Spyderco collaborator, writer and personal friend. He will be missed by many. RIP Wayne.

Sad to hear.

Is it too soon to suggest a Wayne Goddard “memory”?

Another good man gone. I’m a fan of Wayne’s writings and knife design. He played a big part in teaching me to sharpen, with his Blade articles. Sad news.
- best wishes, Jazz.

Wayne was another one that did tests on different steels in rope. This has been up on one forum or page or another for as long as I can recall. At least 20 years. https://sharpeningmadeeasy.com/edge.htm

Wayne contributed a lot to the knife industry and influenced many people. Another one that will be missed.

I distinctly remember that one of my first 10 Spyderco knives I ever owned was the Gray Wayne Goddard model. I think it was in the early 2000s when I got it. I also had one of the little GODDARD models too at one time.

Never met him but throughout the years I had heard many good things about him. We sure have lost a lot of great knife designers in the past 8 to 10 years. I'm still bummed over Bob Lum's passing and his models are still some of my favorites. I will certainly keep Wayne Goddard's family in my prayers. RIP

My condolences to the Goddard family and also to Spyderco for the loss of one of their earliest and most iconic collaborators. I definitely appreciate the Goddard designs and Sal, it sure seems fitting now to run another sprint of one of his models with upscale materials in his honor (perhaps a Ti version of the Goddard Jr. or even a high polish G10).

Thanks for the wealth of information you have given us

The collabs were definitely iconic and the design was very purposeful

White micarta and signature on the blade is a must
