It will have the same texture as the Chaparral. It also affords the options of colors and steels.

Sal's posts from this afternoon have further increased my interest. The confirmation that this FRN Sage is intended to hit a lower price point and that there will be steel options (as hinted at in another thread) alone are both interesting. Then there's the confirmation of the FRN texture pattern plus the probability of color options. All of this is coming together to sound like a knife I'd really like to have.

Being a huge Sage 5 fan , actually it’s my favorite Spyderco, I am very excited about this. I do hope and suggest for the current Sage 5 as well, that Taichung implement a detent ball ramp like the PM2 has. At the very least, give the edge of the tang more of a chamfer so that the detent ball can transition smoothly. At the moment, the Sage 5 is very harsh in this regard. Also please move towards using ceramic detent balls.

Thank you! This makes me so glad.

That is a great blade shape and design, sir.

And FRN will go well with it.

I like FRN, and the shape of the Sage, but my knife fund is in the negative numbers right now. Perhaps I'll buy one later on :)

Not interested at all, in fact I'm a little disappointed. I thought the sage series was about honouring different locks and their makers and we already have a compression lock version and have the chaperral for handle materials. I know there is 2 versions of the 3 but I never really got changing the handle material to peel ply Cosby sweater either.

Anyone have a pic of a sage and chaparral side by side?

A sage g&g hawk collaboration would be cool

I’m excited for sure. I like the idea of different handle colors and lower price point!

Thanks, Sal

It will have the same texture as the Chaparral. It also affords the options of colors and steels.

My FRN Chaparral has seen the most pocket time of any of my knives lately. It is by far my favorite FRN handle. Id love to see this new FRN sage in full Salt form. Elmax would be a must have as well. I'd have preferred a backlock or liner lock, but the comp lock could be interesting. Excited to see how this one shakes out.

FRN Sage LW with a liner lock would be awesome if compression lock version does well enough to warrant a new version. Especially if we could see it in something like Elmax or XHP. Ideally, i'd love it as an LC200N Salt model with DLC coated blade and hardware and black FRN!

Give it thin (2mm) blade stock and it would almost be THAT ;) : viewtopic.php?f=2&t=82771#p1302254
And THAN I'd be really interested...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)
