Most likely not interested, but the lock could swing it.

As I have said earlier, I personally see the Sage series as a litttle more "dressy" knives, so not very excited about FRN Sage
If i were able to make a wish come through i'd choose Axis or Neely lock and pakkawood or micarta scales..
Also, if it is to become a ball lock model i'd prefer it the way the D'Allara was made, with good scalloping around the ball.
CBBL is also not a love of mine :)

I for one am extremely excited! FRN is my favorite handle material. I would take it over G10 any day of the week. I really hope it is a backlock but I highly doubt it as there is already the Sage 4 with that lock.

Well that's interesting. Surprised you didn't go with something that hasn't already been used in the Sage line up. I'll probably still buy one just for my Sage collection. It's a little less attractive to me now since I already have so many knives with the compression lock.

Hmm, the Chaparral LW (FRN) is roughly 31% less expensive than the G10-CF laminate Chaparral (MSRP vs MSRP). If that math holds true on the Sage line (for now intentionally ignoring the possibility of a different grind and possibly different steel until confirmed) then we might see this FRN Sage (5?) come in at $154 MSRP and $100 MAP. That would be a compelling price point.

I've also suspected that the Sage 5 G10/CF at $150 MAP has been getting squeezed by the base Para 3 for $20 less, and S110V Para 3 for $10 more. Unfortunately for me, the Para 3 feels a little awkward in hand, while Sage series feel much better. So, I'm glad that Spyderco remains committed to the Sage series.

Hi Sharp Guy,

I didn't want to use a new lock as I'd rather reserve that for regular production./ The FRN Sage was for those that would like to carry the Sage as an EDC because of the design, at a lower cost, rather than the lock. The Compression lock is very popular right now so it seemed like the right choice.

Thanks for the explanation Sal. Makes sense. It's kind of like what you did for the Chaparral FRN. Gives the fans a nice EDC option at a lower price point. Like I said, I'll probably get one just to have. I like to carry FRN knives at work. So I bet I'll end up carrying this one. Any plans to use the same texturing that was used on the FRN Chap? A nice color would be great too. :)

It will have the same texture as the Chaparral. It also affords the options of colors and steels.

At first I was not interested in this but upon learning it was a compression lock it's hard for me to say no to compression lock knives with wire clips.

FRN Sage and FRN Caly 3.5...what a world. Get great designs to more people based on the lower price point vs g10

As a Sage series lover it sounds good to me. Sal, since the handle material would be more affordable, could be chosen another blade steel?

That makes sense to me, and hope remains for more Sages more in line with the predecessors ("fancier" scales and new lock types (new for the Sage line)
