I am buying a thank you gift for a buddy of mine, what do you guys think I should do? I want to stick under $60, so that is tough. He has a couple knives, but they are the cheap cold steel older versions. He spends a ton on guns, but not much on knives. I was thinking a Dragonfly 2 or a UKPK would be the best knife (that I would like), but I am thinking maybe a tenacious or a polestar would be better.

The green tenacious, black blade, partially serrated looks like it should appease the less then average knife nut.

Any other ideas?

Well, a Polestar is $65 everywhere I look, so not quite in your under $60 budget. But I do think it would be a good gift. For a guy that has Cold Steel, a Dragonfly 2 might be too small.

Polestar would be superb.
A Byrd Raven would also be very nice.
A ukpk is okay so long as he doesn't mind slipjoint.

Type in bundle on blade hq and there is a polestar bundle there.

Cool bundle! I agree a Dragonfly 2 is too small for a cold steel person (but they are so awesome!).

Think he could want something like hawkbilled dragonfly? Serrated h1 goodness? I think I paid under $60 for mine.

That was actually going to be my next purchase, minus the black coating. Partially serrated knives work a lot better for game processing in the field for me. Ever try to go through a goose neck with a plain edge? Not always easy. Same with the tissue of entrails on a deer. The serrated teeth work really well for that.

Or get him 2 cara caras. One serrated one plain edge

Big knife? Resilience or Endura
Medium knife? Tenacious or Polestar
Small knife? Dragonfly or Delica.

Gifting knives has mixed results for me. The DF2 is pretty universally loved by recipients IMO, as is the SAK Classic.

If he's a gun guy, get him a big knife. I'd go with the Resilience.

I would be inclined to buy him something he likely wouldn’t think to buy himself so the Dragonfly HB SE would be my choice.

For what it’s worth I bought a friend who’s a Shipwright and mad sailor a little Ladybug HB SE (the Dragonfly didn’t exist then). He carries a SAK as well as the Ladybug daily and sings it’s praises nearly every time I see him. :)

I'm going to have to go with the Resilience too. It's a big honkin' knife that would make a gun guy very happy. And it's around $50.

Another vote for the Resilience. It’s a big knife and it’s going to be able to take a beating from a non knife guy. Serrated blades get all buggered up fast when abused, plain edge can take it better. You know he’s probably never going to sharpen it

My go-to Spyderco for a gift is the Roadie. Super ergos for such a small size and a friendly design that everyone one likes whether they are into knives or not.

in that price range, i'd also go for the resilience or the dragonfly 2 salt se. i purchased those two knives together for an edc pair and they go great together. if he already uses big knives from cold steel, the df2 might be a better way to go. going with the se salt version makes it different enough to carry as a backup blade along with whatever he already carries instead of completely replacing what he's comfortable with. most people seem to love the df2 and se h1 puts it on another level.

I vote for spyderedge DF2, I'm thinking of giving one as a present myself.

Main reason is that everyone loves the DF2, its just a handy little thing!

If you must stay $60 or less an SAK. If you could go a bit over $60 the PE Endura in zome green or other color he might like.

I’d get him a UK Penknife, or shop around eBay for a Delica, maybe an Endura. I had a brand new Resilience, and I gave it to my father in law I dunno, I just hated the resilience for some reason.

Buy him a Polestar.He will be happy and you will end up buying one for yourself.
