Interesting reading how many people say they prefer 2-2.5mm. Personally, I like my folders in the 3-3.5” range with a slightly thicker blade than that. My idea of an ideal folder would have a 3 1/2” blade with 3.2mm stock ground quite thin bte. (.010-.012).

Gimme one beefy 5mm blade that's FFG and tall so it can still slice, two in the 2.5-3.5mm range for every day utility, and a few 1.5-2mm dedicated slicers in different steels. That would do me, lol. I can't just pick one style of knife. I prefer bigger blades in regard to length, but that's about all I can say. I need variety.

Around 3-3,5 mm at the spine for a 3,5" blade, perhaps with a tad less distal taper for strenght

For any knife, the Ideal blade thickness is zero.

Chaparral 2mm cuts like a laser...
might not be the appropriate tool for all jobs,
but for my everyday use its ideal.

The only thing I would change is the name...
Spyderco makes some great knives many many great designs.
But they come up with some of the stupidest names lol
Devil Boy or something cool that would've drawn more attention to this one...
Chaparral!?

Sorry I went a little off topic there.

I used to EDC a Swiss Army Knife before I found Spyderco. Still carry one from time to time. They have main blades in the 1.8-2.2mm range last I measured. I've never had a problem with that thickness. Same with my Centofante folders.

I'll still buy thicker blades, as anyone can see from my collection, but the added thickness is detrimental to the performance of the knife for my uses. I'm reminded of that everytime I cut cardboard with a SAK. It's effortless compared to a 4mm thick Spyderco, even if the latter is FFG.

Call me a heretic, but the 2 mm blade on the chap just never settled well with me. I want something a little thicker. 3mm at least.

I feel like 3.5mm (Manix, PM2, etc) is just about perfect for my needs. Good balance of strength and weight. Some of these ridiculously large, overbuilt folders make me wonder if someone can't decide between a pry bar or a pocket knife, lol.
I definitely fall into this same group, I feel like the PM2 would stand up to anything I throw at it since, I don't use my knives for prying because that's not what a knife is designed to do. But I have no problem with really thin slicey blades like the Chapparal because again I use my knives for the thing they are designed to do; cut.

I'm with you Surf. That is what I consider my ideal folder. For some reason I see these "2.9" inch or shorter blade's advertised, and while some are good and quality, such as the Tasman Salt, I prefer the 3.5 to 4 inch length and the 3-3.5 mm thickness. Way to Go my friend. Thank you :)
