Would You Buy a Blue Handled Spyderco?

Post by ugaarguy »

As most here are aware, sales of the Sage series supports Alzheimer's research, and sales of many of the pink handle folders have supported breast cancer research. Blue is the awareness ribbon color of Type 1 Diabetes via the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, and of prostate cancer. If Spyderco is up for it, who would either like blue handled folders, and/or like to see them earmarked for a part of the proceeds split to benefit the JDRF and prostate cancer research?

Yes. In fact, I already have several blue Spyderco’s. Blue is my favorite color.

Yes!

I’d like to see more Pink and Blue scaled Spyders knowing a percentage of the sale price would go towards medical research. :)

I'd buy and if a choice of day blue or black I'd probably go blue as it supports a good cause.

(Supporting veterans is another I'd be more motivated to buy.)

Although I've never personally seen one but I have heard from two separate sources that the C-44 Dyad from the ATS-55 era was once made with a blue handle. Not sure if it was a prototype, sample or a special run but I sure would love to have a blue handled C-44 Dyad.

Also I'll always love my blue handled, PE Dodo model. I just regret that I traded my Blue SE Dodo and to this day haven't been able to replace it.

I'd rather have purple for cancer research.

I think that's BBS S90V.

In terms of blue, I prefer green, but for a cause...

Now there was a Dyad Jr. that had a blue handle but it was a very limited run. Actually on the box they listed it as "Teal" instead of blue. But it was blue for all intent and purposes. My Blue PE Dodo has always been "sheeple friendly" when I've had it in use at school or work. It is interesting how people perceive things strictly on their color>> but I've seen it on many occasions.

I believe Doc Dan has been championing this color/cause (re: prostate cancer) for a few years now. I am definitely in depending on the model and steel.

I prefer blue handles, so it's a big plus for me. I've actually gone with aftermarket scales to get blue on several of my knives.

I own a few Spydercos with blue handles or scales, so I'm not averse to blue. I'd buy another if it was a model I wanted to own (or own more of), a handle/scale material I liked (so no peel-ply G-10), and the blue was a shade of blue that appealed to me. I would not buy one simply because it supported a charity. If I want to give money to a particular cause, I give money to that cause, so I'd give $100 to it rather than buying a $100 item to give it a couple bucks.

I think Paul’s is the far more impactful approach.

But if the Glessers are prepared to invite us to laudable causes with a series or color choice, I won’t say meh to it. I have the complete Sage series, including the original blue Sage3.

My late mother suffered Alzheimer’s for 10 years. The symbolic link between a knife and person I love has been a comfort. It’s a reminder we aren’t (and ought not be) alone in this plague.

Besides, I do like blue. My M390 PM2 is blue, as is the S110V Manix2 Lightweight I gave a niece.

It's BBS's S90V. Still available and much cheaper now.

The Blue Millie, the TiCF Millie, and the Blurple Millie are all sweet knives.

Still waiting for that CPM Rex 45.
