What's Next for the Chaparral?

The Chaparral is all about showcasing different handle materials.

Is it still, though? The latest FRN model seems to have woken people up to the utility of that size and thickness blade; as well as the ergonomics.

With that particularly thin blade, one would think it narrows down the steel options.

TBH I might rather have a Caly Jr in a more practical steel than the SuperBlue.

I love the knife and XHP is a great steel that gets very sharp. But it's not very well know by the general public and it is not 100% stainless. I think M390 would make it a better seller.
I personally would love to see a Salt version in LC200N. They have all the materials in Taichung to make that happen.

So what you're saying is : XHP is not "100% stainless" and "very well known by the general public" but M390 is .... based on what ?

XHP has around 9% Chromium left in solution which is below the stainless mark. https://knifesteelnerds.com/2018/06/11/ ... stainless/

And M390 is way more popular in the knife community. It's like a brand name thing. Same thing with SxxV steels. People recognize the name and know it is stainless and works well. And they buy it cause of it's reputation/performance. Not that they know anything about steels.
I wouldn't say any non knife random guy would know. Most people don't know steels. But they wouldn't be shopping for this knife in the first place. They buy something cheap cause it also cuts right...

I'm very interested in learning what the mothership has planned for the new Chappies. Like a few of the others, I don't think a steel change is needed. CTS-XHP is a fine choice. The idea that it's not well known in the knife community is ridiculous IMO.

Although I'd love to see a steel upgrade (to s110v or Maxamet) I understand that doing that would defeat the underlying theme of the Chap series.

I vote for wood, but not the stabilized plywood you often see on Spydercos and Benchmades. How about curly birch, snake wood, ironwood, etc.? I'm sure that will be a big boost to the price, so it may not be a smart decision. Still, a Chap version of the Sage 4 would be nice.

This is too bad. I've been carrying my Chaparral LW a lot lately (in my pocket right now) and I keep thinking how I'd love a Salt version for food/beach, an S110V/Maxamet for cardboard cutting, and a Cruwear for EDC. I do get the original intent was to showcase handle materials, but the LW is such a winner its a shame not to expand on that with a few more LW versions.

We're looking at wood, but we've had horrible problems with wood models made in the orient and shipped to dry Colorado almost always causes problems.

The Chaparral is a great knife, but I would really like to see it with nested steel liners in g10 without carbon fiber laminate.

I'd love to see the Chaparral with contoured handles. Literally any material, but titanium would be amazing. The Chap already has such a slim carry, but for me contoured handles always make a good design even better for something that melts away in the pocket.

The Chaparral is a great knife but I would really like to see it with steel liners either in g10 or frn like how the Delica is set up.

Why do you prefer that over the nested steel liners it already has?
