What was your first Spyderco?

#1

Post by Cave_Hermit »

Well I am pretty new to knives I’ve always had them but didn’t really know anything about steel types and quality. One year ago I got my first endura from a friend and I still didn’t know what V10 Steel was but I knew it was miles ahead of any of my other no name knives in performenace around my little farm just by using it for half a day. A year later and 6 more Spyderco’s and I know a few more things about steel and liners and lock types and different companies in the knife game but yeah I guess my first was the endura 4 ffg and it’s still being used in the rotation. What was your first Spyderco and how long ago?

The Resilience and Tenacious. It was probably 4 months ago, I saw them at Wal-Mart and wanted to try some of these "knives with the hole" and that was it for me. Now I'm 12 deep and growing.

Tenacious in late 2016/early 2017. Not 100% sure. It’s hard for me to remember anything that came before my first native. Which was May 18th 2017 exactly. I still have the receipt.

The knife that started my addiction was a KC
exclusive Native in XHP. Around 2014 if I remember correctly. Things really went south fast after that one!

I asked on a couple forums what I should get. Everyone said a Delica 4. Got it, hated it, sold it. Too small for my hands and the saber ground blade cut like a butter knife compared to my Swiss Army Knife I EDC'd.

A little while later I bought a Military, then it clicked. I finally understood the hype.

hey guys, I just wanted to let you know I have big hands. :unicorn

My first Spydie was a Dragonfly that I ordered almost exactly 3 years ago. That was followed by a Persistence a couple days later. Then about week later a friend sent me a Sage 1, Sage 2, Manix 2 G10, and a ZT to try out. I liked the Spydies. He made me a deal I couldn't refuse and I still have them today.

A plain edge, SS Police model in 1989 I believe. Having read Combat Handgun monthly, it was hard not to notice the recommendations in the articles.

This question has been asked a lot, and in earlier iterations, the Tenacious was well represented and I fit right in.

It was my gateway to Spyderco. Steels got me curious and so I gave away my “inferior” steel. Glad I did for my friend’s sake, but I do regret not having ready access to the ergos that first drew me to Glesser designs. Steels are not as important as ergos in my book.

These days the Tenacious seems not so dominant.

I just received my first Spyderco today, it is a Dragonfly 2. The clip on the knife I carried to work for the last 10 years broke last week, so after some research, the DF2 seemed like a perfect choice. I am really happy with it, it feels great in my hand, doesn't take up much room in my pocket, and is nice and sharp out of the box. I also have my eye on the Sage 5, might get one if there are some Black Friday sales coming up next month.

The large Wegner was first, I think, and maybe a Delica 3, then this Paramilli. Around ‘98 or ‘99 for the Wegner, and early 2000’s for the Para. Still have them. I wish I got into Spyderco when they first came out.
