It had 14 bids. Search spyderco cricket on eBay and then filter to completed sales

My father is a metallurgist and was involved in the late 50's and early 60's in commercialising Titanium manufacture (or something like that).

We have 2 lumps of titanium from the sides of the metal pour and they are rainbowed like this but much brighter.

Will try to get a photo of them.

I was watching that one! I wonder if the final sale was legit or not? I was about to bid, when it jumped from $233 to $1,200.

Now it becomes a question of whether the buyer will actually pay.

I certainly hope the person's not bidding over the moon just for sh*t and giggles! :(

Well, I've seen cases in the past where someone places a huge "nuclear bid" while the bidding is still at a reasonable level, assuming the other bidders will drop out before things get out of hand, only to have another bidder come along and challenge them with equally absurd bids. Then, when it comes time to pay up, one or both of them disappear.

I was third highest bidder once, on an auction where the "winning bid" and second highest bid were both well over $1000. Wound up getting offered the knife for my bid of somewhere around $250, which was still kind of high for that knife.

Someone who really wanted it got it. Also, the only person driving up the price was me. I tried like heck to get that thing. No luck though.

You could but ten Para 3's for around that price, and they cut better. :)

Rich, have you tried checking out Japanese knife websites? AFAIK, the Rainbow Cricket wasn't some one-off piece, just a JDM Spyderco. Shops there may still have them. Heck, given that the SS Cricket is still in Spyderco's lineup, Sakai may still be making the rainbow version for sale there.
