Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
Hello,
This is my first post on this forums, and I'm looking for advice on my Spyderco Domino. The pivot screw was having issues, it just kept spinning and and when I tried to take it a part to loctite it, the pivot screw appeared to get "stuck" after partially loosening. The pivot was very difficult to get apart and I would of stopped at that point, but the blade centring was ruined. The blade was now scraping the right side of the handle and even when I tried to re-tighten the pivot, I couldn't get it tightened at all, so the blade was centring and I couldn't stop the blade scraping the handle and when I finally got the knife a part it appeared the threads on the pivot screw threads appeared to be damaged (cannot go fully back together, also probably why it was so difficult to take apart) add insult to injury I lost one of the bearings... I have owned dozens of folders, and never had a problem with a pivot like this before. From my understanding, if I send my knife into Spyderco warranty, they will replace the bearings and pivot screws for a fee? I live in Canada and really don't want to take my chance with the CBSA because of their new policies. So, is it possible to purchase custom or replacement parts to replace the pivot so I don't need to ship my knife across the border? Has anybody else had this issue with the Spyderco Domino pivot, being it is two male screws, and not a female/male pivot system? Any suggestions on what to do with my Domino would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum Gideons.
I would contact Spyderco. From what I've heard, they are very good at working with their international customers.
I hope you can get your Domino back to rights! Nice knife.

Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
I feel really sorry for you knife people living in Canada, i read in Blade Magazine how the shops selling knives are having problems getting knives shipped to them.
Were just now getting some of our worthless knife laws changed state by state here in the USA, we really need to get that 60 year old Federal Switchblade Knife act. of 1958 repealed.
As long as that stupid worthless and plain never did anything as to stopping gang violence in the USA, we will always have states and cities that will try to take peoples knives away.
There is a group of law makers in the USA who want to take away not only firearms, but knives from their law abiding citizens.
If we don't keep up with their constant assaults on our rights to own both firearms and knives, we will end up just like people living in both Canada and the UK and in the UK they can't carry even a nail file.

Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
Sadly that was not my experience, when I called the Spyderco warranty support it was a very quick conversation... that wasn't very helpful. I was informed I would have to ship in my knife and go from there. The Meat man wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 11:46 amWelcome to the forum Gideons.

Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
A couple of questions.
What did you expect? Were you hoping to convince them to ship parts to you?
Why would international customers have to pay for warranty repairs?

Deleted post, worried it take thread off-topic.
Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
If he mails it to Spyderco and CBSA inspects the return shipment, then the knife will be confiscated. This has been discussed at length here, and Sal has commented in those threads, so Spyderco is well aware of the situation. It seems reasonable that Spyderco would send parts to Canada rather than forcing their Canadian customers to mail their knives to Golden and risk losing them to government confiscation on the return trip.MichaelScott wrote: ↑Sun Sep 16, 2018 2:39 pmA couple of questions.

The OP stated that he lost a part when disassembling the knife. Disassembly no longer voids the warranty, but the warranty still doesn't cover lost parts.MichaelScott wrote: ↑Sun Sep 16, 2018 2:39 pmWhy would international customers have to pay for warranty repairs?
Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
Also, once one knife (or package in general) gets confiscated from the CBSA, all further packages you import will be inspected more thoroughly by the CBSA.ugaarguy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 1:18 am

Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
Does anybody know if these would fit the spyderco domino? https://ticonnector.com/product/14-cage ... -bearings/
Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
Get a pair of digital calipers and measure the OD and ID of the cage / washer of the caged bearings / thrust washer in your Domino. If you don't want a 10 pack of thrust washers, you can get them in pairs for $2-$5 per pair, depending on size, from USA knife maker - https://usaknifemaker.com/shop-categori ... hings.htmlGideons wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:17 pmDoes anybody know if these would fit the spyderco domino? https://ticonnector.com/product/14-cage ... -bearings/

Hmm, maybe I should invest in a pair of those calipers. By any chance does anybody know the dimensions of the pivot/pivot screws?ugaarguy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:36 pmGet a pair of digital calipers and measure the OD and ID of the cage / washer of the caged bearings / thrust washer in your Domino. Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
I did end up getting a pair of digital calipers and it would appear the bearings Spyderco uses in the domino have a unique dimension. From my measurements, and other threads it doesn't appear their are bearings form places like ticonnector or usaknifemaker that fit the domino.ugaarguy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:36 pmGet a pair of digital calipers and measure the OD and ID of the cage / washer of the caged bearings / thrust washer in your Domino. Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
People have had luck with these bearings on the factory thin SS raceways. I've been meaning to pick up a pair to replace the awful plastic caged tiny bearings that come from the factory. I'm not sure about finding a replacement pivot screw though.

Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
Do you know "luck" with which models? (I compare the measurements I got to the ones in the link later today). I believe different Spyderco flippers use different sized bearings.Airlsee wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 11:59 pmPeople have had luck with these bearings on the factory thin SS raceways. Re: Spyderco Domino Replacement Parts
I appreciate the reply. That does appear to be the case. It just seems like a waste of time and resources for me and Spyderco to repair a knife just to be destroyed. I had one knife seized this year, when looking at the customs form it states it was seized & destroyed due to it having an index flipper.
It references article 84 (1) Criminal Code which lists all prohibited weapons in Canada for the reason it is being seized. However it is very important to state, index flipper (or flipper) isn't listed in article 84 (1) of the criminal code. https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/act ... on-84.html . The infamous CBSA policy update that banned the import of many different type of knives does explicitly list "flipper" as now part of what the CBSA views as a prohibited weapon.https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publication ... 1-eng.html This is important because it shows they believe their custom policy either supersedes the actual federal law or as an extension to the federal law, which in both scenarios is false. Since this is the CBSA own policy, with the Domino having a flipper I cannot see a scenario to why they would allow the Domino to re-enter the country. It also states on the form previously buying the item in country, or getting repairs isn't grounds for appeal.

This thread is about the Domino. I was talking about the Domino. The bearings are less than $3...Gideons wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 1:32 pmDo you know "luck" with which models?
