In praise of the Wharncliff blade...

#1

Post by lonerider1013 »

I recently got one of these (wharncliff Delica4), and have used it several times over the past few days. Each time... wow! As someone who carries a knife as a tool let me say this is one of the neatest blade designs out there! If you don't have a wharncliff get one! I'm already wondering what other similar blades are out there...

They are very nice indeed.
I loved my Spyderco air for the same reason.

It just gets into the cut, stays there, and gets ‘er done.

Yeah...I've been carrying my (slightly customized) Wharncliffe exclusively for about 6 months now. I like it for everyday tasks around the house.

Mine is the S30V version but I swapped out the factory scales for Salt 2 scales (since I prefer not to have steel liners). I can't wait for these Salt Wharnies to be more prevalent. A black model in LC200N is highly desirable to me currently.

My serrated wharnie delica has been in my pocket everyday these past 4 or 5 months. I bought the hap 40 one too but it has been used much yet. I'm about to get another SE delica wharnie as a backup next coupon code probably. It's just that good. Of course, I own other wharncliffe, mainly traditionals. Small wharncliffes are just fantastic. I would be interested in trying a large wharncliffe, maybe that endura wharncliffe Sal is testing. The yojimbo didn't do much for me as an edc.

I just used my HAP40 Wharnie to cut up some cardboard for our recycling bin. Jazz is right, it does stay in the cut very well. I don't necessarily like it for all cutting tasks but it's a carboard cutting machine!

I love my Wharncliffe Delica from CS. Great steel, and great blade shape at an amazing price.

I’ve had a few Wharncliffe blades, none presently. I like them for certain cutting tasks, but not for a general blade use.

I’m really enjoying my wharncliffe, but one place I do not like it is in a cutting board. It’s brutal on the board, and probably puts too much stress on the tip too. But for handheld work I’m loving it.

It works well with food, it’s just brutal on a cutting board.

I've chopped veggies with my Yojimbo 2, if you pinch grip it the whole edge lays flat on the cutting board so it works pretty well. They're certainly not a jack of all trades blade shape but I've been able to use them for a good 95% of my daily needs. As long as I don't get stranded and have to clean a squirrel with one I'll be ok.

I love my wharnie delicas and other wharnie blades. In the Byrd forum Sal asked recently what we would like to see next and many of us have chimmed in regarding some wharnies in BD1, perhaps add some input to that thread if you're also a wharnie lover! :)

Wharncliffes are awesome. Eagerly awaiting the day when they make a Wharncliffe Dragonfly and Manbug :D

I'm loving the hap40 wharncliffe delica. I mean, haven't used it a ton but like it more than the vg10. Would love to see more tool steel wharncliffe blades. And maybe a tool steel serrated blade. Spydie edge delica wharncliffe in hap40? Just saying this becuase I've never had a tool steel or high carbon serrated edge.
