I am nowhere near knowledgeable enough to be able to modify knives without ruining the integrity of the tool. That said, I have yet to buy a knife that I've been unsatisfied enough to want to modify it.

I've swapped scales on a couple of my Natives and am considering making my hollow-ground Rescue be flat-ground. I love mods. They're a big part of the fun, for me. ;)

I haven't done anything too serious. But I like to add small touches here and there. I reprofile and mirror polish the edge of just about every knife I have. I've made fobs for my smaller knives (and a few of the larger ones too). I have a few custom pocket clips. I've got some RIT dyed handles on my HBdfly, and I did a handle swap to make an all black s90v Yo2.

I regrind by myself all my knives up to a zero ffg.
The only ones I obviously do not dare touch are my Higo and Hizen.
I also apply a high grit on all the blades that i use, except on high V steels and on my rockys.
Sometimes i (re)build their handles with Ipé wood.

Over the years I've done the basic stuff like changing scales, and replacing pocket clips, but last week for the first time I broke down a Nirvana and stone washed the handle in my rock tumbler. The rock tumbling resulted in a awesome finish. No more snail trails!! The pocket clip wasn't tumbled.

My favorite Spyderco I own so far is modified. I have a PM2 with the DLT exclusive red scales and a 52100 blade that I put a very dark Patina on. I carry it every day when I get home from work(at work it’s the green 204 Military). It’s nice being able to create my own “sprint”.

The green 204 Military is mint the way it was made, would not do anything to mess with that!

I'm a fan of custom scales, clips, and sometimes blade finishes.

On occasion, I'll swap steel detent balls for ceramic ones.

You paid for it might as well make it yours.

I do light mods. Refinishing (satin, bead blasted, mirror polish) stripping paint off clips. Dying handles. Reshaping some blades.

Satin finished every piece of metal on this one

Beyond reprofiling the odd blade, chamfering an offending Spydiehole or other hotspot, and polishing off some stonewashes, I keep my Spydies as delivered.

If something fundamental in a Glesser design doesn’t grab me, I just don’t buy it.

If I’ve bought it, I’m pretty much about divining Sal’s (or Eric’s) intent, as he has encouraged us to do.

I usually change the clip, unless it's a wire clip, they are the best. Don't like the Spyderco flat clips and often make my own out of titanium, shorter in length. I finish them in a blasted gray(NO PAINT).
