USPS box-crusher caused delay but not destruction. Mine finally arrived, and the knife had survived unscathed. Apparently the box was trapped in some machinery recess?

RS has a nice blade pic, so here's the handle. The G10 is a light desert tan, though some screen settings may make it appear grey.

To quote Tommy Lee Jones, "These are gonna sell like hotcakes!"

How would this compare to the commonly available 30 and 110 steels? I was planning on picking up a pm2 soon but don't want to snag away from a collector if it's just a marginal difference.
How thoughtful.. lol...
S30V will be much easier to sharpen. I currently have a S30V PM2 and love it. If I were to do it again, I'd get the blacked-out version. I tried the S110V but it's just too hard and brittle for my liking. I had a bad burr that I couldn't smooth over for the life of me. Sure it can hold an edge forever, but I'd rather have a hair-popping sharp S30V blade over a "working edge" on S110V.

Regarding 20CV, it's a little harder to sharpen than S30V but not nearly as difficult (in my experience) as S110V. Personally I love 20CV for its corrosion resistance paired with extreme edge-holding ability. It is certainly my steel of choice, with S30V in a close second.
There are still some limited run PM2's with S35VN steel. I saw one on Amazon earlier. Might be worth checking out... A little better than S30V but much easier to sharpen.

You are welcome that someone put this much thought into answering your question :)
Holler if you have any more.

My take is that M390/204P (don't own a Spyderco in 20CV yet) takes a nicer polished edge than either S30V or S110V and keeps that level of smooth, but aggressive cutting longer than either as well. S110V keeps a functional, if not so refined working edge longer than either of the others in my experience, and according to reliable sources, *much* longer.

Of the three I like M390/204P the best, with S110V beating it out as a yard work blade due to it's aggressive working edge ...and while it's my least favorite of this grouping S30V is still an excellent steel and has the benefit of being the least expensive and most available option.

That said, I'll be trying for one of these because it's a new variation on a favorite steel in a G10 color that looks decent and I don't already have too many PM2s.... wait, I already have more PM2s than I could possibly need, is that heresy?

Already owning the BBS/M390 and the Brown S35VN, I don't think I'd have much to gain here? *please confirm this so I can save some money*

Dude, get the 20cv and enjoy it. This family of steels is among the best performing and most balanced in all attributes out there. The difference in ease of sharpening over s30v will be marginal at best and can be nullified with better abrasives. You won't regret it. :)

I picked up a couple of the Red/M390s last year after they must have been up for at least a few days. Collectors will get their chance and we have too many knives aleady! ;)

It is completely dependent on heat treat, but M390 and 20cv are extremely similar. Most consider them interchangeable, some say M390 has a slight advantage, because?.. I dunno, you'll have to ask the real metal gurus that one. If steel is your main concern, your Blue M390 should offer everything this does.

Thanks, I'll probably go for it. As silly as it sounds, half the reason is that I really don't care to have a black handled knife. Price is right at a little less than the 110 and easier sharpening is always welcome.

There were a lot folks that got bent over highly desirable Kono Fujiyama's that released on CKTG in the past and were snapped up by folks for whom it was just another knife, rather than the collectors. No idea if that happens in this community, just trying to be considerate of those who take it seriously since I'm just after the best tool for the job.

It's funny how people can get so moralistic about who deserves what when it comes to some trinket they think belongs in their cabinet. :p

I'm really on the fence on this one, although I'll probably try to snag one when they drop.

I'm not a fan of silver/polished clips and hardware on the PM2 but I guess that could be changed out easily. I don't own any Sypdercos or any other knives with 20cv so I'm definitely intrigued.

You have a cabinet? Why do you need one? I don't think that you need one, when there are others who actually need one. You're just taking cabinets from those who have a real need for one! Thank about the cabinet collectors!
