My new Spyderco PM2 Limited Edition

#1

Post by snapshot2017 »

Just received my new Spyderco PM2 Limited Edition, and it's a keeper as everyone has posted the quality is outstanding.
It really fits my hand and the operation is super good.

After watching Spyderco's Shop Video Tours 1&2 i understand why my knife is so good.

My lighting outside with the sun makes the picture of the blade look black but it's really satin.

Already thinking about your next? May I suggest a Delica, Military, or the new Carribean?

Excuse my lack of knowledge but I'm not aware of this LE PM2. What is the blade steel and where did you get it? I'm sure they're not available still but my curiosity is piqued.

Edit: I guess it would help if I read your whole caption  . I thought it was a DLC blade with brown G10. But it's satin so I'm assuming it's s35vn?

I had been reading the forums and searched for just a plain PM2, but found the LE PM2 while searching the rest is history.

Edit:
Yes blade material s35vn
Edit:
Data sheet says "Sportsman Supply Inc." i bought mine from The Knife Center so i guess there working with Sportsman Supply Inc.

I had to reduce the file size of the data sheet, hope you can still read it.

Does anyone know many runs of this brown S35VN PM2 there have been? Just wondering... and am I right that it’s a distributor exclusive (not a sprint or dealer ex)?

It is a distributor exclusive, so "limited edition" isn't necessarily true or false, just depends on how many runs they commission. By comparison a Spyderco produced sprint run truly is limited to the run they produce and that's that. Dealer exclusives can be run over and over, so a 1200 piece run could (and in this case did) turn into a 2400 piece run, and so on and so on. So, it's more limited production than standard production but it's anyone's guess how limited it will be .

Finding the Knife that a company like Microtech made special like the one used in a movie like John Wick, and a $500 dollar knife when first sold today is $3,500 even if you can find one someone wants to sell.

Gotcha, so this is the second run? I love the PM2, and I’m sure S35VN is a fine steel, but I think the brown G10 is just a little drab for my taste. That said, I think it’s just great that Spyderco puts out so much variety and pleases so many people in so many ways. If it’s one thing that sticks out in my mind the most about this company it’s the tremendous variety of blade steels, and for a cutlery concern that’s got to be the highest virtue.

There is a video on line with a man who has collected every PM2 that has been made, he just collects PM2s and any new steel or anything new he wants it.

Well let me back up....honestly I don't follow Para 2 runs very closely, as I don't buy them. I thought there was a brown/S35VN Para 2 already and I thought I saw Knife Center or whoever it was post on FB that they were doing a second run.....?

Regardless, dealer exclusives are not set in stone, if a dealer continues to request them and they continue selling well and Spyderco agree to keep making them, they could very well make tens of thousands of them and then it's far from a limited edition. Sprints are limited to the one run and will never be ran again in that same steel/handle material/color configuration.

Evil D has it right.

Up until this year when I finally stopped the addiction I had every single Para Military and Para Military 2 ever created.

Distributor exclusives are not dealer exclusives nor sprint runs. The S35VN PM2 has dried up before but has been made in sufficient quantity to always be easy to get for MAP pricing. Even the blurple s110V experienced a period of price gouging and demand as a production knife that the brown guy never did.

Myself i am just happy there is enough demand that the brown PM2 with s35vn was just $155, my buying Microtech's from $280 to $490 had really slowed me in collecting.
Now i feel the Spyderco knives are where i need to be today.

I'm sorry if it seems I'm down playing how special your knife is...I didn't mean that at all, I was just trying to help clarify some verbage. It's a great knife in a great steel.
