As much as I'd love to see it, I don't think we'll ever see the Sage 4 again.

Yeah me too. About 2 years ago I came across two different S4s that were in nice condition for very reasonable prices. I foolishly hesitated on buying both and missed them. I haven't seen one for sale for a price I can live with since. I stopped looking.

Good luck in your search.

Hi Hatchet,

We never say never on sprints. Some time must go by and we also watch requests from our customers. I will say that I'm working on what I think is an "Upgrade" to the Sage pattern so we might see new models and maybe even some older models re-made to the new pattern.

Why did the Sage 4 go extinct, anyway? Did it have to do with the higher-end scales and bolsters?

Yes yes and yes! My absolute favorite along with many other people. Such a strange phenomenon with this knife that has happened. It has truly become a legend. If I could pick one knife that’s discontinued to turn into a sprint it would be this one. It would have to be awfully special material to touch the original though.

The large bolstered Persian and Kris can't come back soon enough, even if only as sprint runs. Heck, the small bolstered Persian needs a run with polished red G-10 to match it's larger sibling.

The DODO must come back>> it's as simple as that>> however it's really high on my list of old models to return in Spyderedge.

Two others for consideration are the KRIS and SPYKER models>> but again those are also models I would like to see in SE as well.

Super good list Brother!!!! I'll just go down the line with you all >> The DODO not only more future Sprint runs but it's also a major candidate for a Spyderedged Sprint Run. The Captain is the same thing>> the inner arch in SE would make it a completely new blade all together>> The Captain in SE is a "NO-Brainer" for sure.

We've had the JESS HORN in ZDP-189 and I still own one if I can ever find it in my storage unit  They had the old C-27 Jess Horn in SE and I've wondered what any other Horn model would be like in SE. I'll take the Szabo Folder in either edge type because it's about as close the AYOOB model as any tactical Spyder out there.

The PUUKKO in S3V or S20V would have it on my "Gotta-Have" list. The Warrior in LC200N would be most interesting. Yes I'll give you a high five on many of Ed Schempp's models>> don't like everyone of them but I do like most of his Spyderco designs. There are several of the Ed Schempp models I would love to have seen in SE.

Now I'm just not too sure about the BATTLESTATION but I have liked some of "Dialex's" designs over the years and especially his Adventura model. But I'm not too sure what I would use the BATTLESTATION for  ? However I'm sure it would be a great collector piece in years to come.

The problem is that everyone has their favourite models from "way back when": if Spyderco really brought them all back, they would also have to stop making so many new ones; and remember that most of these models were discontinued because they didn't sell so well...

But yeah: bring back the Jester and a few Persian sprints ;)

Knives usually get cut due to slow sales. It is sometimes but rarely due to QC issues. I speculate that this may have been a little of both.

When these were available the two most common complaints were that it was heavier and more expensive than the other sages.

Some thought it had more screws than it needed. Also, for some inexplicable reason the market doesn't always love back locks which is unfortunate because the Sage4 has the same awesome backlock as the Chaparral.

Spyderco also reported that there were issues with the wood after being shipped halfway around the world and back through different climates.

Bring back the Jester in FRN and any flavor of steel, and a budget option of the Bradley Air (XHP and G10, with a wire clip)
