IMO This is the best looking exclusive or sprint ever done..and its only $10 more than the red Delica..steelcity16 wrote: ↑When this first dropped I thought this would be a slow seller. I mean the M390 Para 3 at BBS has been around for months, and still is. People were saying how ugly the color of the REC Para 3 was, etc, etc. But all of a sudden it got hit with hype out of nowhere and became the must have piece. On the other hand you have the St Nick's Delica, which I still think is one of the best looking exclusives ever done, and it is sitting around.

Can we close this thread, why keep dwelling on it? Haha

With them being somewhat local, I have been to their shop. I would recommend it to any one who might be in the Columbus Ohio area. It is not big, but it is well stocked and you might find an in store sale (which B&M's are allowed to do under MAP).
When it comes to sprint runs, If I want one, and get one, I consider myself lucky, if not so be it. They got blind sided, tried to fix it and got hit again. They were honest and transparent about the issues (I follow them on Facebook and they were communicating about it all day). They are an honest business that had an honest mistake. Learn from it and move on. I am not going to tell some one where to shop or what to do. The problem with sprints and limited dealer exclusives is that there is really no way to make it up to unhappy people.

This store and the people there are GREAT! I will totally cut them some slack on this....... they tried. In the end, its just a knife. It's a cool knife that THEY put together and the THEY came up with. In my view, REC should be applauded for taking the risk (and the time and the effort) to put something like this together. Perhaps because of (and in spite of) REC doing this, they again, or even a different place will try something out of the ordinary when putting an Exclusive together.
The fact that their Exclusive was such a success points to the shop's awareness and connection with the knife community. They have good taste. I have met several people that work at this shop and the employees are 'just' passionate and knowledgeable knife people. Give 'em a brake and be thankful someone took the risk and effort to put this all together.

Refreshed all morning to get one, site went down, they were gone.
Oh, well. I have way too many knives already.
Looking forward to a couple from Taichung at the moment. It’s okay.

Bummed I missed this one, I'm still kicking myself for not ordering one from the first batch when I had a chance.
Guess I'll have to settle for my BHQ DLC Para 3.

I missed out on both batches aswell. At first, not many ppl cared for this knife. Then it went to everyone had to have one. I feel that they tried to be fair and have no real complaint. Wonder if they will do a PM2 version??
Re: Para 3 with CTS 204P River's Edge - New Shipment
Yes, the first batch took at least a week to sell out. I hope they do a PM2, because I'd try to get one to sell for a Para 3.Redman5006 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 6:43 amI missed out on both batches aswell. At first, not many ppl cared for this knife. I was very lucky to snag one yesterday. I was just walking on the beach and decided to check in. Bingo. The site crashed immediately after I got my confirmation.

Re: Para 3 with CTS 204P River's Edge - New Shipment
Out of all the vendors that I've purchased from.... Rivers Edge Cutlery has had the best customer service by far! Brian answers the phone for questions, the "reserved " email notification, fast shipping, and the realization that your helping an old style small family business!
What's funny to me (being new to this forum ) is when I started reading the REC Para 3 thread MOST were not liking the look of the knife and I saw a lot of ugly /pass replies! I was able to get one if the first batch with no trouble.and now it's a must have....weird!
Hope everyone realizes they are a growing business that is learning and gives them more opportunities in the future.

I was one of those that passed on it the first time around. I loved the handle color but I wasn't too sure about the PVD coating. I guess I started to warm up to the color after awhile. I also got curious ago how well the coating stood up to use. The price was reasonable so I figured I'd try to get one from the second batch. Since I was on the fence I'm not disappointed at all about not getting. I'm glad some of the folks that really wanted one were able to get one.Extra330SC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 10:15 amWhat's funny to me (being new to this forum ) is when I started reading the REC Para 3 thread MOST were not liking the look of the knife and I saw a lot of ugly /pass replies! Looks like the 3-4 that were on eBay yesterday have sold.
Re: Para 3 with CTS 204P River's Edge - New Shipment
I actually decided I had to have one because it was ugly. I wanted to EDC a para 3 and beat it up, and I figured I'd have no qualms abusing this one because I didn't like the look.Extra330SC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 10:15 amWhat's funny to me (being new to this forum ) is when I started reading the REC Para 3 thread MOST were not liking the look of the knife and I saw a lot of ugly /pass replies! It's been great, and I've been beating it up, so double win. :)

It took a small, no name, "Mom and Pop shop" and launched them into the stratosphere. The good news is this run was so successful you can almost guarantee that the crew is going to plan a PM2 in the future.
I think it's great when people like Brian and his crew at River's edge Cutlery take a HUGE risk and it pays off. If you look back at when the knife was revealed it didn't get alot of love. Something like this was a make or break move for such a small organization.
I'm very happy it was successful and that we got a really great looking blade that has a unique combination.
The word I received from REC was that Spyderco has had trouble getting Carpenter steels (CTS-204P in this case) in the relatively small batches that sprints and exclusives require. Therefore, Spyderco isn't going to produce many, if any more with 204P. If the Carpenter steel supply doesn't get fixed, we won't see this color/PVD/steel combo again.
Sprite=7up=Sierra Mist, equals lemon-lime soda.
All the same flavor, different companies.
The PVD is a thrid party process done by coating specialists, not steel companies.

Elmax vs S30v? That's different.
That's Pepsi vs Coke :D :p

Re: Para 3 with CTS 204P River's Edge - New Shipment
Is there any metallurgical difference at all?
My experience has been that my 204p seems to hold it's edge longer then my m390, but they are totally different platforms so I wonder if I'm just fooling myself because of the differences between the different blade geometries.
I assume Spyderco uses the same HT for the two steels?
