Amazing that the s110v military had over twice as many cuts as the s90v military. I've owned both and they're extremely close in performance.

I expected it to be on par with k390.

I don't think k390 is a hss.

Interesting! Thanks Jim!

That is not quite what I thought it might come to. I thought it would be closer to Maxamet, at least over a thousand.

Still that is a terrific amount of cutting. Higher than K390.

How did you find the edge bite or aggression to be compared to other HS tool steels like Maxamet, K390, CPM M4, etc.?
20 cuts here or there at that level is nothing, really could have gone either way.

It's very aggressive with my 400 grit edge.

S110v at the same hardness beats S90V, raise that hardness about 3+ points and make it thinner behind the edge.... Like those blades that I tested and there is the difference.

Finished the rope cutting, it did excellent IMO.

Wow, 840 cuts, cut more then 4v and M4, Very nice. That hardness really helps.

Thanks Jim

Not sure what the HRC hardness is, but I could tell it was way up there.

I must have missed the stats on the s90v military.

S90V Military was 60 HRC and .025-.027 behind the edge, same as the PM2 I tested.

Thanks, and Merry XMAS. :)

The Caribbean is going to take a long time I think cutting rope.

Hello Jim,
I was just curious if you have used the PM2 or Para 3 in the Rex 45. I have noticed on the s110v military , it has a slightly higher hrc than the Manix 2 or PM2. I am wondering if this may be the case for the Rex 45 family, or if all models seem to have the same performance. Thanks

Spyderco won't answer that question, unless if you can convince Sal.

Every time I've asked about HRCs of knives, they've responded that they don't know or its proprietary info. We usually need to rely on independent testers for actual numbers.

I have access to a bench top HRC hardness tester. If I get around to taking my Rex 45 military apart I will share the info here. I’m hoping for 66-67 rc. I just got the knife and the factory edge is the sharpest I’ve ever seen out of any brand or model. I think this steel will take a killer keen edge.

I got a repeatable reading of 66 HRC on my CPM Rex 45 Spyderco Military model. Happy with that number.

Thanks edge-e, good to know!

Do you have a Maxamet blade to compare?
