CPM Rex 45 is more stable at the edge then Spydercos CPM M4
Rex took less damage.
Don't get me wrong, I like my Rex 45 PM 2 - used it all day on Sat. And your test is impressive. But it might just show that Rex 45 is harder than M4. Try to scratch the M4 blade with the Rex blade and vice versa.
Michael Christy posted his experience with Rex 45 and it's quite impressive. He notes a 17% longevity increase compared to HAP40 on his cardboard cutting test.

Thanks for posting! Another great video from MC and between his and BBB testing.....good data points for guys like me that will never use my knife to carve wood or tear into brass tubing!

Actually 21% increase over Hap40.
That depends on your perspective.
The difference was 198 cuts. That's 17.6% of 1122 (Rex 45) but 21.4% of 924 (HAP40), so both answers are right, from certain points of view.
Let's say it's 17.6% less than 1122 and 21.4% more than 924. It's annoying, I know.
I am surprised we have not seen more performance comments/threads. If its wear resistance and possibly toughness is better then Hap40, this could be the steel that outperforms M4 in those capacities... Maybe there is a lack of interest since the results will likely be close to M4?
Well the teaser above got me interested enough to scare up a pm2 for $159 after the dust settled. Equal to or better than M4 with a scale color I prefer to jade and much less expensive than the KW M4/CF exclusive. Winner!

The way I look at it: Rex 45 is 2-3 HRC harder, but less tough than Rex M4. I don't do rope tests, but in use and hand sharpening, Rex 45 feels almost identical to Maxamet.
Guys, sorry but I couldn't understand from the discussion whether Rex 45 is laminated or lamination just came up in the discussion because of the comparison with HAP 40.

Very nice write up. And, you have some great looking sharpening stones and blades.
Sometimes sharpening for me is like music... A great Conductor (you) knows how to make the pieces work together by knowing the limits and ranges of all the instruments (steel and stone). A good Musician knows their part (me) on how to play the notes, and the importance of time, tempo and volume.
If I play my part well I can get most of my knives absolutely hair popping sharp but no matter how much I try I can’t carve my hair into a tiny Christmas tree. Then again my Hair has a RC of 58.7

REX 45 is not laminated
Thanks, good news. I'll grab one of Millies ASAP :)

Funny how the Rex45 was so hyped and desired. Now you never hear anything about the 2 models released in this steel. Safe queens I'm assuming? My guess is it becomes more of a production steel we'll get more testing and feedback. Don't even see many pics of these knives posted in picture threads!

I think recently we have been faced with a lot of great offerings and a variety of steel choices. 204p 4v 20cv maxamet cpm cruwear dlc/non dlc etc. I’m sure we will soon see performance discussions. To-date, I carried and used my para 3 in Rex 45 for about two weeks. I then sharpened and put it aside. Personally I think it takes a fantastic edge. I finished on 800 diamond stones and stripped from 4 micron to .5 diamond emulsion. I was able to whittle hair both ways. I don’t care to nor have the time to do rope or cardboard testing. I agree the hype has faded a bit but trust more experienced knife testers will chime in.

The REX45 PM2 has been my most used knife since it dropped (check out my many pictures of it :) ). The DLC M4 PM2 was to be my beater this summer, but the allure of REX45 was enough to kick it out of my pocket 9/10 times. It's too early to tell if I like it better than M4, but REX45 has been a joy to use and touch up. Until I reset the bevel myself on the Wicked Edge it's really not apples to apples, but every time I go to reprofile I end up just retouching the edge on the Sharpmaker because it's been easy to get back to shaving sharp and really doesn't look like it needs a new back bevel. The blade was getting a little haze to it so I Flitzed it up last week and it went right back to it's shinier than usual PM2 self.
My experience with M4 goes back much further and we know each other pretty well at this point, which I can't say for REX45. The only steel I think I *might* like more than M4 is K390, but I've only really used it for a year on the Police4. It stays shaving sharp forever, retouches quite easy, and cuts aggressively. However, the Police4 is a very different knife than anything I own with M4 (Military included) or REX45, and I can't be certain that the blade design itself isn't part of the equation. Plus the 4.5" Police4 isn't something I EDC, so my experience is limited compared to something like the PM2 or Delica which see a lot of out and about use.
Really enjoying REX45 though and it does have potential to dethrone M4. Now where is that Military?!? :D
