Some of them are indeed a bit ugly at first sight. Ironically, the ugly ones often become my favorites after a bit of carry and use. The Stretch is a good example. What a well designed and highly functional tool looks like is often different from my “race car” vision of what one should look like. I’ll take function over form every day of the week and Spyderco knives reign supreme in function.

Well put Gringo with the exception that I strongly disagree with your view of my beloved Stretch.

But that’s just the thing Bloke, it was only ugly until I used it. Sometimes it’s hard to see their true nature until you put em to work...then they become beautiful.

Reminds me of my first girlfriend. At first I was a little unsure about her but after that first kiss I was smitten.

Cool little bird Darby. Native to your area?

This is an Aussie Bush Turkey. They’re all around the bushland and the reserves around the Naval Base at work.

They’re funny buggers, curious and not scared. I snapped this one a few weeks ago. :)

Spyderco aesthetics are an acquired taste, we don't expect you to understand.

Maybe you need to work your way up to understanding Spyderco design by starting small, perhaps with a knife that has a great blade to handle ratio and rainbow nitride coating. ;)

As for Spyderco knives, while I wish they'd produce more that looked like this...

...rather than featuring fugly peel-ply G-10 scales and screws. However, in the end, I use a knife with my hands, not my eyes, so I find the ease of opening the Spyderhole provides well worth its cost in terms of eye appeal. I'll just add that I find it less unattractive than some of the alternative openers like thumb discs, waves, and flippers. Same goes for the thumb ramp the Spyderhole necessitates on some models, I really doubt a Stretch or Persian without those two features would be as comfortable to use.
