Jess Horn Q?

#1

Post by CKE »

What different options of the Jess Horn exist? How many models, how many where made and pics if you have them. I can't find any info in the literature I have other than 1997 C38 Jess Horn Lightweight, and 1995 C34 Jess Horn. Which was which? I have seen one without the hole I assume that to be the C34, and the one with the hole to be the C38.

Again pics would be great thanks.

Oh BTW, how are these knives if you have one. Were they more of a gents folder or could they take EDC(moderate)use? Thanks again.
I can't figure out how to edit, thats the reason for the extra post.

Thanks VW. Spent more time searching on the net and found a few pics. I would really like to get a PE C38. Did it have a pocket clip, I would assume so.
So I know how to edit now...thanks!

The cat says the C27 is tip down, the C34 and C38 are both tip up.

I only have a pic of the C27 in my comp.

I have a Moki version of the C27. It is a very pretty and high end folder (for me), smooth as glass and rock solid lockup. I have not used it on tough work, but I would not be afraid to use it for EDC. I have lots of pics if you would like me to post some. One thing I really like about it is the arcing clip, most unusual on a spydie.

The Jess Horn II came in both black and white Micarta. There was also a SS version (which is still available from A.G. Russell).

There was also a 3/4 size version of the Jess Horn. The only place I've seen it for sale was A.G. Russell, but they seem to be sold out of that version now (it may have been exclusive to AGR). I don't know if it had a different model number from Spyderco.

I picked up one of those SS Jess Horns from AGR. It's a sweet little number. The box it came in had an experimental label on the side that had been crossed out. I also picked up one of their red Snap-it PE's,which are exclusive to them,so maybe the Jess Horn was too. Here's the link:

My first Spydie was a C38 Jess Horn LTW, PS. I carried it for close to a year, using it for general to moderate cutting and never had a problem. I imagine it would take quite a bit more than I threw at it though. It's an excelent splinter-picker. I ran accross a deal that couldn't be passed up on an Endura, now I would have a hard time going back to a smaller knife for general EDC.

I have a micarta verson that I picked up but never really used. Very nice construction and looks like it should hold up well.

The Jess Horn is a sleek little sliver-picker. I have a stainless and a white micarta version in the small size. Russell had an exclusive on the flatground models which are sweet cutters.

I just got an Al Mar 50/50 Falcon, and I've never noticed before how much these knives look alike! The only differeces are in the blade profiles, grinds, hole instead of stud. The handles are very similar. Did Jess Horn also design the Falcon for the late Al Mar, anyone? RKBA!
