Backpack clip snag

Post by ZrowsN1s »

Bent a clip :(

I thought I'd mention how it happened as I've seen my buddy break two clips like this. Never happened to me though until today.

So I park my car and get out, and I'm standing in a tight spot in between my car and the car next to me... I go to take my back pack out of the car and proceed to try to put it on while standing in between the cars. As I'm in a tight space, the bag is very close to my body as I lift it up. One of the straps snags the clip in my pocket, by the time I feel it pulling on my pocket the damage is done. Clip bent. I bent it back most of the way but I'm going to need to take it off and take a pair of pliers to it when I get home.

I'm sure it will be fine, I just wanted to share my cautionary tale of woe in the hopes that other will avoid the same mistake. Watch out for those backpacks!

Yeah, it happens unfortunately.
I’ll say that for me personally I find the spoon clips to be the best at not doing it.

Yep had it happen last week on my SB Caly3, snagged on the seat belt while getting out of the truck. Also prefer the spoon for this very reason, the wire clip is just too fragile me thinks,
Happy to be part of this great forum and group of down to earth spyderco addicts, Thanks Sal and gang.

i used to lose my sog flash ii to my backpack and seatbelt all the time. it got the point that, whenever i noticed it was missing, those were the first places i'd check. i seriously lost that knife 500+ times and i still have it. never had it happen with a spyderco yet, but it's still a good thing to be on the lookout for.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

The normal pocket clip always drags on my steering wheel and tears it up. I've pretty much used wire clips since esp if I'm going to drive my car

I’ve had the older style native clips (more squarish than current clips) snag on door jam strike plates. Bent clips suck. A vise is helpful for bending back to shape. Depending on how bad it gets tweaked it can be difficult to bend back to shape.

I have given up using clips for pocket carry. Too many seal belt ejections and torn up furniture and car finishes.

Soft nylon pouch with Velcro flap,,,, leave the clip on the Spyderco but protected from snags.

My leather steering wheel is fairly wrecked from pocket clips. Tried to be so careful, but one mistake, then another, and another, and I finally gave up. Scratched steering wheels and worn out pockets, the hazards of knife life (that and an empty wallet :D )

Scratched steering wheels I assume come from front pocket carry? And compact vehicles? I carry in my back pocket, and have a couple light scratches in the paint from getting into the truck with another car parked close. Worst pocket-eating knife I ever had was a Benchmade 520. Aggressively serrated and hard anodized aluminum scales. The para3’s g10 is probably going to leave a mark too.

I carry in both pockets, double the chance to scratch things with my pocket clips! :D
