Manbug Salt Sheepfoot or Ladybug Salt Hawkbill?

#1

Post by atv223 »

I've been carrying an old ladybug my wife bought me many many years ago and have really been appreciating the small size. I love the Salt series and have a Dragonfly SE and Pacific Salt SE. I really want a Manbug Salt Sheepfoot or Ladybug Salt Hawkbill but not sure which one. Help me decide!

If you like SE you need to try it with a hawkbill. I'd have to say Ladybug hawkbill, but since you also have (and probably like) a Dragonfly, there's also the Dragonfly hawkbill..

The hawkbill might be best, but in some locales hawkbills are illegal (for some stupid reason). I would find out before I made a decision.

I have both and carry the ladybug more just because the set of keys it’s on but I really love how the serrations on the man bug go all the way to the end of the blade, creating almost a mini hook at the end. I wish Spyderco would take their se edges to the end on more models like this. The are both excellent little knives.

I haven't had a Ladybug Hawkbill, but the aesthetic of the Manbug Salt appealed to me more. It's been my keychain knife since they came out. My current hawkbill blade is the Byrd Meadowlark version.

I keep the Manbug Sheepfoot Salt on my keychain. It makes quick work of those pesky clamshell packages.

I have both, each on a separate set of house keys. I carry the Manbug sheepsfoot more often for whatever reason. I also will carry a second larger knife usually a Delica, Endura, or Positron along with the key ring knife. The hawkbill Ladybug is a great cutter, but if I have a serious cutting job to do I'll generally use the larger knife.
