Not me. It has definitely piqued my interest though!

I wonder what blade steel it'll have?

Think they would color the blade? PVD on certain lights i've seen lets them color things. Isn't this the process they use for DLC coating as well?

I guess this is how they are coating the back lock of the gold Delica and Endura as well

Had not heard about it before now. Definitely interested.

Physical Vapor despostion (PVD) is the process
DLC ( Diamond Like Carbon) "Black" is one of the many coatings that uses PVD.

We'll have to see what the choose, maybe a different color then black.

Intriguing! I wonder what the steel choice is.

This is probably part of the long line of dealer exclusives of the para 3 to come.
What do we have confirmed so far? the M390 bbs, BHQ M4, Rivers Edge, and ...?

Yes, I emailed Brian Kent the general manager and got back to me saying he would add me to the list to be notified when they drop. He also the specs on the knife would be released soon. :)

Pretty cool! River’s Edge is one of the few shops I’ve actually visited. I’ll have to budget for this one, I’m sure it’ll be top notch.

What does PVD stand for?
Physical vapor deposition.

Normally it's a metal-ceramic coating on the order of some thousandths of an inch thick applied in a vacuum to a metallic surface. It's a process to increase the lifetime of drill bits and endmills, as well as other metal things that benefit from a very hard coating.

Another method of applying such coatings is chemical vapor deposition (CVD)

Does it bond (chemically) with the metal? And if so (I'm assuming it would bond with some much more well than with others), which ones does it bond with best?

If anyone knows.

That's a beyond my limited knowledge of the process. I don't know the precise bonding mechanism. Also, because there are countless combinations of materials that can be used as PVD coatings, and most metals can be coated, I can't answer which has the strongest bond. There's really no way to answer that.

As I understand it, however, the deposited material remains chemically distinct from the substrate (steel) that it's applied to.

A properly-applied PVD coating will stick to its substrate as if it were the same material and is not likely to be removed by any mechanism besides abrasive or adhesive wear. As wear occurs, the PVD coating will lighten and fade, until the substrate is exposed. That should take a long time in regular knife cutting applications, but I've not tested it, and I don't know what material they are applying via PVD. It also depends on what you're cutting.

I hope it's the glossy black PVD. That's an amazing look.
