i like that green!

FRN UKPK. Previously modded with smooth natural g10 “jade” scales from Cuscadi. Dyed today in RIT DyeMore Peacock Green for 10 minutes. I may do another round and go slightly darker.

Fresh Maxamet PM2 grey G10 after about a minute in teal RIT dye.

Here's my orange Dragonfly.The florescent orange was peeking out of my pocket like a shining beacon so I did a Dark Brown, Cherry Red fade. The photo looks like three distinct sections but it is a smooth transition in real life.

What color Rit dye did you use for this?? Also how long was it in the dye? Looks awesome.

Was going for a bright orange, turned out kinda pumpkin spice. My 6 year old said it looked like rust, and I love the irony in that.

This is totally awesome. I’m looking at dying my Tasman with Tangerine Orange and Cherry Red RIT. I’d love to achieve a similarly smooth faded transition on mine. Any tips?

My first RIT attempts: the Byrd with "evening blue", the salt Dragonfly with "violet" which turned an awesome garnet red. Wish I'd left more yellow at the top of that fade, but oh well. And to answer a previous question, I didn't bother removing the scales on the salt. But make sure to clean the insides of the scales well if you do that. I left some spots of lube on the inside around the pivot and the dye didn't take there.

Keep it moving and let your eyes be your guide. My colors were cherry red and dark brown.

Thanks, I used tangerine orange and it sat in there a good hour or so. The longer it sat, the more “rusty” it looked.

I figured with the holidays coming off and some time off this excellent trhead deserves a bump. I had failed to subscribe to it in the past and currently have need of this information for a project involving changing the Jade Scales on a Blade H.Q. Dodo I recently purchased.

This is one of the best resources I have ever seen so here you go hop this helps someone with a holiday project. Perhaps this thread should be made Sticky?

Mine have all been simple single color jobs. The more I do, the less I overthink it. I used to submerge in boiling water but then I'd worry about the knife hitting the bottom, found I get results just as thorough dumping boiling water into a cheap plastic coffee mug from a gas station and soaking. Every couple minutes I'll swap the blade from open to closed so there's no missed areas around the pivot. A leatherman/pliers are handy to move the knife in and out of the mug. Here's a simple black dragonfly that I wanted in a more subdued color for use in public. Black is the easiest choice- no need to worry about soaking too long, just drop it in and come back in an hour.

The salts have definitely come out best in my limited experience. Of the three I've done all came out the exact color of the box used, whereas the gray delica went maroon in the same red bath as the native and the Ivory stretch was done in teal but came out forest green. The gray frn chap took navy blue surprisingly well.
Next attempt might be a GITD delica to see if it still takes a shine through the dye job- anybody have experience with that before?

That is darn strange how real came out Forrest green on the Ivory SSS. Did you trey a different soak time? Do you think longer would provide the correct color?

I tried to do a dark purple on the chap lw I had, but I couldn't get it darker than a lavender color, soaked maybe an hour. I think i just used the liquid RIT, boiling water and vinegar...did you add anything else to the mix on that one? Longer soak time?
