Has anyone dyed either the burnt orange frn or the red frn (ie m390 para3)?
Wondering how the darker base colors come out...
And wondering what a para3 lw in rex 45 might look like

With so many burnt orange sprints coming out I'm curious about this as well. I might love it, might hate it...

Not sure if the orange is the same as on the HAP40 models but I have been waiting for someone to show an orange to something other than black so I can maybe copy what they did.

I took the bright orange scales from an Endura and dyed them deep/dark red, sorta maroon/burgundy and put them on the Black-out Endura w/the TiCN combo blade... it's a bit late to deal with taking a picture but I will post up my example tomorrow for ya... I used Rit DyeMore cherry red, and just kept checking every few minutes until it was the colour I was going for. Of course I'm completely biased but I think it looks pretty neat-o burrito. ;)

Jade M4 Dodo I Dyed a while back

Sapphire Blue Rit Dye More for Synthetics.

Took Knife completly apart, put in an ultrasonic jewlery cleaner with soap

Followed directions on bottle but added white vinegar

Brought to a boil then leveled off at a simmer stirred Dye Often then soaked for roughly 45 Minutes.

Scales are less able to be seen through but not a solid color and the effect is still nice. The last picture is taken holding a single scale up to a light.

Edit: the color looks darker here than it really is the last picture gives the correct color.

Very nice! I'm impressed with how opaque they turned out. The Jade M4 always seems so translucent, even when dyed.

Yeah, that's a super well lit image, in "normal" light it's a wee bit of a darker shade.

Cheers,

John

This is the second ivory FRN I have seen done strange how it tries to go toward green

Thought I would post this up - just got a burnt orange Para 3. The orange came darker than expected, but still not something I really liked.

I used ritdye synthetic sapphire blue - less than 10 minutes total.
I am by no means a rit dye expert (only fourth knife) - but as expected, the base color is so dark that the whole scales very quickly turned close to black. I was hoping for more blue or even blurple. Ended up a few shades darker than the maroon s90v native. Or maybe more like a dark brown.

It is rainy and overcast today, so sorry for the indoor pictures. If you struggle to see the color, it's because it really is pretty dark. That's a manila folder for background contrast. When I was re-assemblying the knife, my younger daughter commented, "Oh, you made it black?"

Image

Edit - I sanded the inside edges so they were smoother - felt almost like there was an frn burr. There is a tinge of blue/blurple lining the inside of the knife where I sanded. It seems the sanded area may take the dye a bit better? However, there in no way to sand the entire scales due to the volcano pattern.

This isn't dye, it's done with Sharpies on the gray G-10 of a super blue Caly 3.5:

After a first attempt at dying my Caribbean scales black resulted in a greenish yellow I regrouped and tackled them again last night. 1.5 bottles of RIT dye to approx two cups of water. Alternated between boiling and simmering. After nearly two hours a nice dark grey was achieved! By comparison I dipped an frn salt in the mixture for about 5 seconds and it came out midnight black. There's something about that G10 that doesn't want to take dye.

Finally got around to this project, and I'm really happy with the results. Teal all-purpose liquid RIT dye and boiling water for maybe 2-3 minutes.

It was "ivory" before. Off-white.

Nice. They should make more in that color, a blank canvas.
