Post up your Rit dye projects..
Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
A quick dunk in Tropical Teal yields a color pretty close to the LC200N Salt handles. A little more 70's green though. Which I like. A long soak will give a nice dark green.

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
Does anyone have insight as to whether it is possible to get the Seki K390 FRN to dye to a royal blue? Seems like that is taking a darker blue lighter, and so probably not possible. Any thoughts?

Seems like Royal Blue would be darker or richer, but with the tint of that K390 Blue not sure it would be vibrant. I think you could definitely do some kind of Navy Blue.

Before and after. Did about 1 minute 15 seconds in a Royal Purple bath.

If it isn't purple, I don't want it.

Finished up the s30v Native, pink scales faded with royal purple. It will be a stocking stuffer for my wife on Christmas.
The rex45 was done several months ago, it's a peacock green fade (the fade is lost in the photo).

For anyone that has Salt series knife, did you disassemble the knife completely? Or just stick the handle part of the blade into the dye/water? I’m thinking about getting a Tasman/dragonfly SE to dye in the near future!

With the salts I always leave them assembled. I open the knife half way and hold it by the blade and stir the handle around in the dye. If the knife has a clip, take the clip off first or the dye might not make under the clip.BigFishShamu wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 2:05 pmFor anyone that has Salt series knife, did you disassemble the knife completely? I take them apart mainly so I can scrub them down thoroughly and make sure the dye sets in evenly. Any lubricant in the pivot or anywhere else can cause splotchy results. You could probably scrub a Salt knife out enough to get it done but also Salts are among the easiest ones to take apart and put back together so I just go all in.
All SE all the time since 2017

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
Just finished doing a Rit dye on my new factory second Native 5 Maxamet. Used the "Dye More" synthetic dyes, did a fade from dark grey to black (Graphite). Also replaced the satin screws with black (Etsy). Lynch blacksmith clip on order. Really happy with this one, and the knife seems fantastic - another Q2 where it's hard to tell why it wasn't up to their quality standards.

Looks good Vivi. Looks similar to the blueish green I got on my LC200N Pac Salt.

Here’s my most recent
Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
Wanted one a bit lighter than the last, so I tried Kelly Green dye I had leftover from my M4 Manix and it turned out great. The dark green looks almost black in a lot of lighting, while this one looks green even in low light.
