I totally agree. I wish all the frn models had a white option.

If I wanted to dye the LC200N Pacific Salt to a deeper green, which color would you guys recommend? Haven't used RIT in years and I've only ever done black. I want something like OD green or Foliage green, because based on pictures the green they're using is a little bright for my tastes.

That looks so bloody good... I'll probably try for a red/burgundy once I get mine but oh dear that modified blade looks good.

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
I doubt you'll be able to get a light shade like foliage green, but you may be able to dull it to an OD green with an olive or brown/taupe dye. I think your best bet will be to go for a darker green using the "dark green" dye or similar. You could also easily go blue, blue/green, or dark teal.vivi wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 8:16 pmIf I wanted to dye the LC200N Pacific Salt to a deeper green, which color would you guys recommend? Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
It is too bright for mine too but I’m otherwise very interested in this knife. If you do buy it and give the dye a try, I’d be very interested to see the results!vivi wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 8:16 pmIf I wanted to dye the LC200N Pacific Salt to a deeper green, which color would you guys recommend? 1st Rit Dye project done today, did my Caribbean and Native 5 salt. I used sapphire blue synthetic, and added vinegar, splash of Dawn, and salted to taste. Just below boiling, reheated twice. About 15 min on the Native, about 25 min on the Caribbean. I like the results. pretty close the Native 5 Spy27 color. Tossed in a white scaled rat 2 as well, which came out nice. It's the sacrificial blade I'm learning to sharpen on.

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
Thanks, I’m glad they turned out clean. On the Native I initially tried the nail polish trick on the spyder for a 2 tone but I couldn’t get the surrounding area clean without removing some of the polish so all blue it was. I’m planning on modding the Caribbean scales more, ordered the supplies yesterday and will put a thread up when I’m done.

sweet! you'll have to make a thread to show us how it goes. i've been thinking about modding mine as well.LanM wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 7:14 pmThanks, I’m glad they turned out clean. Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
Hey guys,
figured I'd share my results with you.
Here's a table showing the original colours and dyes used:
The method used was always the same:
- Degrease knives (bathe in hot water+dish liquid)
- Heat up water (600-800ml) until just boiling
- Add half a bottle of dye, mix, heat up until just boiling again
- Put knive(s) in (use some bent wire and the lanyard holes or clips)
- Keep mixture at just boiling temperature
- Leave in dye for anywhere between 30 seconds and 10 minutes (depends on dye concentration, colour desired vs original colour, texture/cleanness of material etc. etc.) --> check periodically
- Wash off thoroughly
You do not have to disassemble the knives, the dye WILL NOT stick to metal parts. But do rinse them thoroughly on the inside, the dye mixture tends to get stuck in the gaps there.
It really is not hard and actually easier than I had thought.
And here's some after-pics. I tried my best to catch the true colours in these, but they are still a little off.

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
Modified my new Caribbean as well as my DLT Yo2 with the Graphite Synthetic Rit Dye. I'm pretty happy with the results.
Maybe shouldn't have gone with a Graphite, as I basically ended up with more black knives, or maybe less time in the dip for the Yo. Nonetheless, I will definitely carry these more now.

Wow, nice work everyone. Lots of solid information in this thread! I’m going to have to try it myself some day.

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
I dyed a yellow Pac Salt 2 today using navy blue liquid RIT.
Medium saucepan about half full of water on the simmer, added 2 tablespoons vinegar and a dash of dish soap and simmered the knife whole for a minute to strip oils.
Added about 3 tablespoons of dye and held the knife with tongs in the solution, checking every 30 seconds or so for the desired shade.
I could have pulled it a little earlier but I’m still happy with the results. Ended up with a dark military green. Black Police 4 for comparison.

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..
Greetings!
I've been reading the forum for quite long time, and now there's a reason to register :)
want to share my experience with FRN dyeing of Native Salt SE.
My plan was to set up hi-vis orange color, and then get about an inch of full black color around the pocket clip, with some fading.
I've boiled about 2 cups of water, dissolved there one pack of red synthetic fabric dye (french brand, named 'Ideal', as it's rather hard to get RIT dye at my location. yet I suppose these dyes are quite the same), added two large spoons of 6% apple vinegar. Got scales disassembled and dipped 3 times for 30 to 40 seconds (so about two minutes total).
Then I've repeated this process with black dye, but something got wrong and black color didnt set up at all.
My cellphone camera cannot transfer true colors. In fact, I've got the main color as "brick" (very close to "burnt orange" used in sprint runs) and a splash of deep "red wine" fading.
Anyway, I'm totally happy with this result!
