Started out black and slowly fading to green.

Have done this exact dye job on this exact knife (my dedicated IWB running blade).

The clip side has stayed a nice deep green while the other side has rubbed on flesh and fabric to the point that the yellow is finally starting to show again after 9 months of nearly daily carry. May have to get a touch-up dye job eventually, but for now the faded/worn look is kind of growing on me.

Having never dyed FRN, do you ever see spots on your clothing where the dye has rubbed off?
So it goes.

Love to see a picture of yours with the faded scales! This thing has lives in my life wristband for 9 months straight. I dyed it pretty much right when I got it.

Never had this happen. After dying you should rinse the knife a few times. I usually wash them with soap and hot water a few times and they're good to go.

Many moons ago I decided to dye a G10 Caly 3.5 and Dragonfly - both in Aogami Super. The results were not great on the G10 (these were powder RIT dyes).

From what I've seen you can only dye a darker color. They're a fairly deep blue, so I think you could get a decent purple with them (maybe red dye or purple mixed with red?), or a darker green, but the color options may be limited.

I'm waiting for a yellow FRN Native 5 to come in the mail. I did intend to dye it Forest Green but reading this thread made me ask myself :

Does RIT dye goes away on FRN ? And if yes, is it something I can prevent or will I always have to dye again? (lol)
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Abrasion will remove the material on any handle. Since the dye only impregnates a very tiny thickness of the FRN, it will start to fade.

The only way of this not happening is not to use the knife.
But it is a slow process, and you can always dye it again.
I've only dyed salt knives, so I never disassembled them for the dye process, making it a fast task.

Thanks for your answer. I'll see if I take the time to dye this Native 5 Salt.
It would be a little paradoxal to buy a knife for it's "low/no maintenance" status and have to care about maintaining it's appearance :')

Hey, these dyed handles all look great, I'm about to try one myself. :)
One question though: will there be a lot of color bleed / rub-off when using the dyed handle? i.e., when I actually use the knife, will there be color on my hands?

No. The color won't transfer to your hands. The handle, with use, may begin to show lighter and faded spots, but that can be remedied with another dye process.
