Cruwear Demand

#1

Post by steelcity16 »

There are 61 Watchers on a Para 3 Cruwear that is currently on eBay. That is a pretty big number for an auction. With the prices for Cruwear on the secondary market skyrocketing, I hope that we will see more releases in this great steel. It is my favorite of the Spydercos I own and the only reason I havent purchased the latest knifecenter exclusive is that I already have 2 PM2s in Cruwear with the Gray scales. I really hope that Spyderco can see that there is a market for their popular models in Cruwear and continue to push out new Cruwear sprints and exclusives. Maybe some distributor/retailer will see the light and come up with a family of Cruwear/(insert some sweet new G10 scale color here) exclusives and market them well the way BHQ has done with their M4/Jade exclusives. The Shaman SCREAMS for Cruwear, as does the Manix XL, Manix Backlock, and Native (where is that Native LW in Cruwear Sal said he was considering?). I really want a Military in Cruwear as well so hoping to see that one return soon. I think the only reason that the knifecenter one isn't sold out is that it is a smooth black G10 and a lot of people are bored with black, and a lot of people (like me) don't want a smooth scale (I sold my knifecenter exclusive Native because I didnt like the smooth).

It's kind of amazing to me that S30V was made with the intention of making a cutlery steel, and Cru-Wear wasn't.

In all fairness when S30v was introduced it was a huge thing. Other than 154cm/ATS 34the original "super steel" S30V was the highest all around performing stainless by a good margin. All the stainless attributes were improved upon and weren't raised at the expense of the others because of the then still new powder process. All these years later it still grades high in all areas as a balanced stainless though it has obviously been surpassed in individual attributes . S110V/S90V/M390 wear resistance, H1 corrosion resistance, etc. It's still very near the top in all the things we like our stainless steels to do.

I do like Cruwear better but that is because I'm not a stainless guy and not because I don't respect S30V.

I'm really liking the cruwear. I got a PM2 and ended up putting a chip in the blade cutting a mushroom out of some pebbly dirt. It was so easy to to sharpen it out! I was very surprised. I'm a novice sharpener, but I can definitely see why people say it sharpens like a dream.

I would absolutely love to see a Manix2 LW in this steel. It seems like that knife could be offered in 3 levels: BD1(N), Cruwear, Maxamet. This would be very cool.

I'd like to see a Manix 2 Backlock LW in Cruwear and as well as a Manix 2 Backlock LW Salt in LC200N. I imagine they could use the same FRN as the Native 5 LW rather than the FRCP used in the regular Manix 2 LW that has seen mixed reviews.

I have a Cruwear Millie that has been carried a ton.

What is it about Cruwear that is so good?

Seems about the same as S90v or CTS204P to me.
On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.

Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

I have gotten pretty good at making things sharp so maybe don't notice the difference.

That said my Cruwear does seem to take a pretty good edge.

I've seen first hand that a mistake that would make s90v or 204p chip will only make cruwear minimally roll.

Thirded...not a fan of the smooth G10. The courser the peel ply texture the better I say. Luckily I had two of the gray Cruwear sprints so I passed on this release with the smooth scales. Although now that I think of it I have a few extra sets of blurple and red scales, so maybe I should grab a few of these while I can, do a swap, and send off the smooth scales to a new home?

I just got my first Cruwear knife a couple of weeks ago, PM2 smooth G10 (I'm digging the smooth G-10), haven't really used is yet but I love the finish on the blade.
