Where's the 3V?
Re: Where's the 3V?
Despite all the commentary above, i'd still purchase a Spyderco folder done in 3V if available in a model I like.

Re: Where's the 3V?
I had a big cardboard cutting session the other day and Bark River fixed blades in 3V did really well (all convex grind).
Subjectively, the best one was the Mini Tundra, then the UL Bushcrafter, then the Bravo 1 LT. The only two folders on the same level were the Caribbean SF SE and the Chaparral, surprisingly outperforming hollow grinds such as the GB2 and the Swayback. The Sage 5 also did well.
The cardboard was laying next to a dusty dirt road for a year; the rain and the sun impregnated it with plenty of silica. All blades (I used about ten of them) dulled quickly, but the job was done and the 3V blades stropped back to shaving sharp relatively easily with the Bark River white compound.
I restored the folders with the Spyderco medium and UF stones and stropped with a 3 micron and 1 micron DMT diapaste achieving hair whittling sharpness.
So, yeah, release the <3! Sorry, I mean 3V!

Re: Where's the 3V?
I don't understand why you'd reject 3V in a folder just because it has high toughness. Its edge retention is as high as countless other folder steels like VG10. Take it thinner and enjoy better cutting performance.

Re: Where's the 3V?
I'm all for a fixed blade in 3v made by Spyderco, something bushcraft/outdoors oriented. Not interested in a folder, there are other steels I would rather have in that platform (cruwear, more rex45 etc).

Re: Where's the 3V?
I still think people would be surprised by the actual wear characteristics of 3v if they got it in hand. It preforms very similar to lc200n in my experience, being extremely ductile (unlikely to chip and easy to strop back to full sharpness) while having retention on par with s30v. Think of it as an indestructible lc200n with half the stainlessness. Its the only non-stainless steel I'm all in for.
Imagine how thin it could be ground with all that strength...
or how thinly ground lc200n could be...

Lightly insane.

Re: Where's the 3V?
Oh man, I'd love a para 3 or native 5 in 3v. I like the idea of a tougher folder and the option of a thinner edge.
Also wondering why there isn't more in cruwear. Been chasing a para 3 in cruwear for a bit, don't want to pay $300 on eBay though.
Maybe we could start a pole?

Re: Where's the 3V?
Still holding out hope to see 3V in some Spyderco folders! My Avatar has been the same for many years now and it won't change until there I have a real 3V Spyderco in my hands! :)

Re: Where's the 3V?
… maybe that folding Hmong blade Mr. Schempp is apparently working on together with Spyderco could come in 3V - I mean - why not?

Re: Where's the 3V?
I could be down. I like 3V plenty well in fixed blades, it’d be fun to explore a high-toughness steel in a folder.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Re: Where's the 3V?
3V and Cruwear backlock Manix would rock.
Re: Where's the 3V?
3V manix in XL or standard, back lock or CBBL...instant buy for me either way.
Re: Where's the 3V?
I would like a <3 Native Chief or Military or both.

Re: Where's the 3V?
Well in all honesty you could ask that question about any number of "high toughness" tool steels. But I'm sure it would sound like hotcakes, my personal preference is for more balanced properties in knife steels which is why I'm a big fan of M4 and MagnaCut.

Re: Where's the 3V?
I’ve been pining for 3V without dimples at least since I said so early in this thread. I’d certainly jump on it in a Manix2 XL, but I think a high-saber Shaman wants it more.

Moar 3V! Would it be not a good choice for eg a Millie, Chief and "Hyperhawk" SE models?

Millie 3V, 3V shaman and Manix 2 XL in 3V make sense to me. Ooh, Subvert too!! A spiritual successor to the K2? Magna cut will make me happy too. A spyderco fixed blade with a 14” blade?
