This is about "performance", not "exclusivity", imho...

Delica first. It's a known quantity, so the differences will be available to everyone to evaluate. The platform is cost-effective enough that people will use them, instead of hoarding them, and we can see if the option has merit for other platforms down the road.

Variations of the lightweight Chaparral perhaps? That has quite a thin slicey blade.

Whats the blade stock thickness of the chaparral?

Sweet. I think that there should definitly be more requests on this thread for affordable AFI models like an AFI chaparral, delica, dragonfly, and other commonly available thin blade stock spydercos so that Sal and the gang can sooner work on it

Of those i would definitely opt for the Chaparral-- although i think Taichung already has trouble keeping up on demand for the LW version anyhow.

The Delica is the current plan. I've got a drawing, now to see if the maker can get to the odd specs. Very thin edge, high hollow grind, high hardness steel, etc.

A high hollow is a fascinating idea I was pondering about a month ago. If desired, I think it was something like a 13" wheel on 1-1.5" tall blade could produce a full hollow grind. I'm no fan of most hollow grinds, but it's really intriguing to see a high hollow as a feature!

High Hollow Delica sounds great! What steels are you considering? Would AEB-L be a possibility?

Any suggestions on steel? My first thought was K390, but they aren't planning on making any until OCT '19, though we probably won't have the design finalized until then.

Sal,

1. Thanks for being awesome!
2. I think K390 or M4 would make a lot of since. I don’t have experience with either, but looking forward to more K390 being available :D I’ve heard that these are supposed to be incredibly tough, so would be great choices for needing to be really thin behind the edge. Open to others input!

K390 was my first thought as well for something that has already been used on Seki. I was curious if AEB-L was a possibility since it is also a Bohler steel? And if it is, would it be a good steel in this application? if so, that would be my vote as something a little more stainless, but otherwise K390 sounds good to me as well!

K390 for the first one... followed by 15V with the BBB HT for round 2 ;)

I’ll have to sit this one out because the Delicas’ handle and I don’t get along. Just posting to say it’s great to hear of Sals’ plan for a thin, high, hollow grind. Matter will surely part at the very sight of such a blade!

Hey Sal, I definitly hope to see more k390 in locking folders. I vote yes to K390 for this project. Hambone, I did an edge holding study with my Para3 in M4 and with some tough material cut hear and there as well as cutting the usual cardboard and rags, M4 held up for 61 days with the help of stropping once a week and no sharpening of any kind during that time.

Going by previously used Seki steels:

K390
Super Blue
Maybe even V-TOKU 2 or VG-10?

Honestly though, I'd be interested in whatever steel is picked.
