HHG on high edge performance steels means I reap the benefits of spending less time on the stones. :p Would like to see more of this on some Golden models frankly.

As others have said, VG-10 makes the most sense.

I just received and am testing a Delica with a high hollow grind and thin edge.

Thanks for rewarding my bad behavior in necro-ing an ancient thread :D this is super exciting news.

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves but I’d be thrilled to eventually see similar versions of other knives if the delica works well. The whole military series and native series come to mind as excellent candidates…. My most carried knife these days is a para 3 lw and I’d kill for a super slicy version!

I love super thin hollow grinds, I wish there was more of that in the market. VG-10 is an excellent choice! I wouldn’t be on board with the idea if it was K390.

Super Blue would work really well with a thin, high grind! But I'm glad to hear this is moving forward, even with VG-10.

Please re-introduce the original pointy tip of the original Delica into this AFI Delica.

I think Eric would like to use M390.

Sal, I'd make a strong argument for MagnaCut for a thinner application

Hi Shawn,

I agree, but the timing may not be right? Though I must say that Magnacut is performing very well in the corrosion resistance area and I think it will compete favorably against Vanax.

WOW!!! That level of corrosion resistance to say nothing of it's other balance of properties is a game changer for me.

I'd just like to say this is the best vote ratio I've ever seen.

And MagnaCut may well be the best all around steel we've had yet. Seems almost like a historic time to be in the hobby.

MagnaCut took less damage than ESEE 1095 even when thinner and harder.

Edges were batoned through a (0.150" diameter)16d ti coated nail.

A stainless PM steel with better edge toughness, edge stability and wear resistance over commonly available knives in 1095 even when the blades are run harder and thinner.

Any thoughts on tool steels? Seems like this geometry would be served well by something with both high hardness and toughness, like cruwear or m4.

This was the biggest surprise.

MagnaCut is finer than the PM Carbon tool steels at similar carbide volume.

The combination of having the right chemistry balance to dissolve all the chunky, softer chromium carbides yet has nitrogen and niobium to prevent the carbides from coarsening during processing.

This is allowing for finer carbides than even CPM 4v at the same carbide volume yet also stainless.

I am looking forward to MagnaCut reaching full production levels. Of course, that will mean re-buying a bunch of favorites.

When I started this thread I had a tool steel in mind. But given that K390 is no longer an option, with everything I have read about Magnacut from Shawn and Larrin, that is currently my top pick. "Like a stainless 4V". Sounds like the best of both worlds.

If this came out in Magnacut it certainly would be getting it out into people’s hands. Especially with the lw delica’s price point.

Plus I would use it, extensively.
Lightly insane.
