Ah, the folk lore of Spyderco.
Sal tells it better, but here goes.

Sal Glesser's (founder of Spyderco) first product (before his first knife) was actually a device for holding things steady, a bit like an artificial holding hand, the common name for these types of devices is "Spyder", as in the device used in Snooker/Billards for supporting the end of long cues. Hence a comapny that make spyders could reasonably called Spyderco.

Why the colour blue ? Who knows, perhaps it's Sal's favourite colour.

aaaahhh! the origin of 'Spyderco'.. My favourite subject! If you go through the sacred text, on the intro pages itself, Poppa Spyder had explained why he chose to name his company 'Spyderco' and like any other high-performance equipment which is aptly named 'Spyder' such as the ALFA Spyder, Spyderco knives is a reflection of comittment, high performance and technology that delivers.. No Spydernut would be 'complete' without the sacred sriptures and that is : 'The Spyderco Story'. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
