204P - Southard
440C - S
440V - Gunting
8Cr13MoV - Clipitool
ATS 34 - JD Smith
ATS 55 - Delica
AUS 8 - Jess Horn lightweight
GIN 1 - Renegade
H1 - Catcherman
HAP 40 - Ladybug
LC200N - Tusk
PD 1 - Mule
N690 - PITS
RWL 34 - Lil Nilakka
S30V - Janisong
S90V - Native 5
S110V - UKPK
Superblue - Endura
VG10 - too many to choose from ..... lets say the Memory
XHP - Chaparral
ZDP189 - Caly 3

21 steels (107 knives)- I have a BD1 UKPK and a S35VN Native but according to the criteria they don't count ... truth be told they shouldn't because I hardly use them since getting the steels with more Vs

We can be very grateful that Spyderco spoils us with all this choice - just for fun, I looked at the same criteria for the other brand that dominates my collection - 10 different steels (53 knives) - not too shabby either. Spoiled for choice!!!

My pleasure. I'm honored. :)

With 3CR, 8CR and BD1 I could easily be at 20, but I rather try to get there with steels from the other end of the quality scale. I still don't have Maxamet or LC200N, and hope for more M390 and 52100 choices...

This is a cool thread! It makes me realize that trying out new steels is a driving force in my purchasing decisions. Every knife on my list has been used and sharpened so I can experience the steel.

I doubt there is another company that could give me the plethora of steels that Spyderco does.

This thread is just giving me more ideas for spydies to get more steel types in my collection. Just ordered a titanium pingo for some elmax.

The "challenge" here is not to list your all your steels, then all your models, impressive as such lists may be. Instead, it is to declare how many steels you have WITHOUT counting a given model more than once.

Means you may need to make some choices, which is sort of painful but revealing. By making your choices, we'll arrive at an index (one of many we might concoct) to show in a comparative way what kind of a steel junkie you really are.

Yes, you could collect just PM2s and wait for the next great steel (I've gotten a bunch this way), but what kind of a steel junkie are you? You're not "desperate" enough to try new models just to get a steel. Some here are, especially the ones whose entire Spydie collection is nearer their "steel junkie index".

Turns out I am, comparatively, a moderate steel junkie because my 16 steels in unrepeated models occur in a collection of 50ish Spydies. But I am afflicted, and satisfyingly so.
