Re: 2018 Forum Knife?
I like the idea of having a new edition of a forum knife. Even though I know that the last one wasn't a quick seller. I guess this means that there needs to be a change of the configuration.
I'm aware that I'm most likely part of a minority when I say that I'd hope for a non FRN knife. Hey, what the heck: what about a nice small design like the DF with a pretty Damasteel blade and either titanium or pakkawood handles?

Re: 2018 Forum Knife?
Please:
• Between 3 and 4 inch handle (i.e. a knife suited for normal everyday uses/carry by your average joe, not someone chopping trees down)
• Any scales except the sandpaper pocket ripper standard g10 texture. Smooth g10, frn, carbon fiber, anything except the standard g10. At the very very least please start milling a smooth contact point where the clip touches.
• Compression lock
• M390/CPM-20cv/CTS-204p or s90v or s110v. Please no maxamet or other easily stained steels not suited to general use. A small general use pocket knife needs corrosion resistance far more than it needs the novelty of being able to cut through a ship hull or other activities <2% of people will use them for.
• Liners/internals with anti-corrosion coating. Could be nitrided, PVD, **** even painted works good enough. Unless it's h1 or lc200n, liners corrode fairly easily as water gets trapped behind them.
• Phosphor bronze washers. No teflon, no washerless, no bearings.
• Deep carry clip that is not the wire clip (wire clip as a second choice)
• Thickness: delica-ish and no more. Native 5 frn, for example, too thick.
• No extra tall/bulbous blade, i.e. keep the spydie hole placement and size in check. Or, do a cut away in the scale for spydie hole. Height is important, otherwise it's too wide in the pocket to use that pocket for anything else
• Did I mention I don't like the standard g10 texture and that it is ill suited for clipping to pants?
• $150 or less
There's probably more I'll think of, but that'll get you off to a good start :D

New Forum knife will be great for many reasons.archangel wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 3:21 amI like the idea of having a new edition of a forum knife. Even though I know that the last one wasn't a quick seller. I guess this means that there needs to be a change of the configuration.

In my opinion there were quite a few reasons why the last Forum knife was not sold fast. The main reason: there were too many were made. I believe that iniquity was almost doubled to compare with previous and quadruple to compare with 2009 Forum knife.
IIRC there were 300 of 2009 Forum Native made. The knife was sold in hours. It was very unique. First FFG Golden made Native. Beautiful etched spyder web on the blade.
There were about 750 of 2013 Forum Natives, which were sold in hours as well. Super unique at that time. First Spyderco with S110V and almost first production knife with S110V. Probably more knives went to steel nuts than forum members.
2015 Native in my opinion is the great knife, but not up to the same level like 2009 and 2013. Plus 1000+ were made.

Re: 2018 Forum Knife?
Wharncliffe Delica in K390? It seems like the most logical choice for a Forum Knife. If not that model then maybe a model designed by a forum member like the Rhino. :)
The 2015 Forum Knife sold slow and in my opinion there were a couple of reasons. First, some disliked the color. I personally really like it though. Second, there have been quite a few Native variations and even a few in S90V and S110V. When the 2013 Forum Knife came out it was the first Spyderco in S110V. By the time the 2015 Forum Knife came out we had seen quite a few ultra high vanadium Natives.

I couldn't agree more. I am currently in the process of moving along all of my non-stainless blades.Nord wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 3:46 amPlease no maxamet or other easily stained steels not suited to general use. I was thinking the same thing when I read the title of this thread. Recently there has been a lot of activity requesting a new release of the Dodo. I only hope they make the cut-out for the ball lock larger on the next version so it is a little more friendly for people with big hands.

Re: 2018 Forum Knife?
I know what it needs to be. It needs to be a Lil Native Back Lock in K390 and dark gray G10.

Re: 2018 Forum Knife?
Hmmm..... Seems like a prime opportunity for a Centofante update. Dark green FRN, gold bug, M390, tip up deep carry wire clip...

I would be in for that one with a minimal recurve or even a sheepsfoot with a straight edge.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 6:09 amWharncliffe Delica in K390? How about a UKPK in LC200N? More forumites in more countries could join in this way. :)
Time for another :spyder:!

I think the Rhino would make for a great Forum Knife! :cool:bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 6:09 amWharncliffe Delica in K390? It seems like the most logical choice for a Forum Knife. If not that model then maybe a model designed by a forum member like the Rhino. :)

How about something small like the Jester? Everyone wants one anyways.
