Sharpening m4 with sharpmaker?

#1

Post by andrewu750 »

Pretty new to m4 and also just got a sharpmaker about a month ago. Wondering if anybody has had any luck sharpening m4 with the sharpmaker and what rods are used

I've touched up my Mantra and a GB on my Sharpmaker using the medium & fine stones.

Hey Andrew. M4 sharpens nicely on the Sharpmaker. You should have no trouble at all. If you are going to use the SM when it comes time to reprofile you will need the diamond or CBN rods but that's true of any steel. For touchups and microbevels you will be very pleased with how well m4 sharpens on the ceramic rods. Enjoy!

Thanks for the input. I have been using it to keep my knives sharp and it works incredibly well for that. I’ve used it on vg10, CTS-BD1, S30V, and H1. All of them are super easy to maintain the edge. However I haven’t let any of them get too dull either

The key to sharpening is patience and perseverance. It's all about hitting the apex but getting there can take a while (especially with M4). Diamond or cbn rods will help a lot just don't give up, take a break and come back to it later if you have to.
