Which product to use to polish scratches off of stonewashed blade?

Postby archangel » Wed Apr 04, 2018 5:49 am

I had to touch up the blade of my Slysz Bowie, and I was talented enough to put some scratches on one side of the blade. :( Now the SB is my home EDC, a true user, and there are already dozens of scratches on the handles, since the SB rides in my right sweatpants pocket right next to my Thrunite T10T. I don't mind the scratches there. But on the blade... No...

So what's best to polish the scratches away without ruining the stonewash look?

Basically nothing. Any polishing you do will likely change the finish of the stonewash too and you'll end up with a weird "less stonewashed" spot. I'd just roll with it. Scratches make it unique and add character.

I was afraid of this, but it makes sense.

Vibratory tumbler + ceramic media. Essentially, you're going to have to put a new stonewash finish on the blade yourself. Once you finish tumbling it, you're going to have to spend some time sharpening, obviously.

Schpyder has it right. Use it, enjoy it, and don't sweat the scratches.
As an aside, I grew up in one of those households where we never used the good china or the good silverware. What a waste. :(

I'm pretty sure you can get a ceramic pot or plate, break it up, put it in a sealed plastic cup, tumble the shards to smooth them out a little, and then put your blade in there, seal the top very, very well, wrap it in a towel and rubber band the hell out of it, and then throw it into your dryer on the coolest setting.

Try it on a cheapo knife first.

Just throw rocks in a coffee can and start shaking. Use water or oil if you want to. It's like making ice cream. Stone washed steely ice cream

Edited to add. What's the point of being the sharpest tool in the shed if you never get used.

More stones. But really, it’s not worth it for a user. Keep it sharp and cut stuff with it.

scratch it even more, now that the first ugly scar is there that should be a incentive to make it a full blown user knife
