navigator or dragonfly?

#1

Post by JMC »

Ok--What do you think almite navigator w/VG-10 or SS dragonfly w/ ATS-55? In this size knife for everyday general use do you think I would notice any difference in the performance of the steels? I was thinking of the "fly" because I think I like the slightly different shape of the blade (compared to the nav.) I also think the SS might be a little more durable. Whatya think?

Easy answer, get the Navigator! The blade shape is very useful and you can't go wrong with the VG-10 blade steel! Great little knife!

Tough choice,JMC.
For what it's worth, my take:

Steel: VG-10 wins by a bit
Handle: Steel is heavier, but both are pretty darned strong. Unless you REALLY plan to abuse it, I don't notice much difference
Blade: I'm also a bit more taken with the shape of the Dragonfly, but both have great cutting power
Grip: The clincher for me. My hand fits the Nav like a glove. Few knives feel as much a part of my hand as the Nav.
Overall, I would go for the Navigator, but not by much. Both great knives.

The ss pe dragonfly is a sweet little knife and the blade shape is more useful to me than the navigators semi skinning shape in a knife this small but why pay for one of these when you could buy a slightly larger and more versatile delica or delica 2 for about the same price?

Chinook is right on the money.
I have both a SS Dragonfly and an older Navigator and I like the flat ground blade on the Dragonfly better.
The ATS-55 performs just fine for general use IMO.

Tough one,I would go with the Navagator because of the handle shape.

I learn something new everyday, even though I don't want to. Jeff

SS Dragonfly by far. VG-10 is nice, but I love my SS Dragonfly in PE. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

If it were a G-10 Navigator, I'd have picked it in a heartbeat. But in Almite versus SS, VG-10 vs. ATS-55, I'd say the odds are 50/50.

I have a little FRN 'fly that I'm partial to so I'd say go with the SS 'fly in PE...I'm just a fan of flat ground knives...
