Manix 2 s110v fluke?
My s110v manix had been my edc for over a month. Today I replaced it with my shaman but before putting it away I noticed blade play. I tightened the pivot screw slightly and checked for play and heard a crack. Upon inspection I found the blade has fractured part way through but not clear off. Is this some crazy fluke or something to be very weary of with s110v?

Sounds like something Spyderco needs to see ASAP.

I can't see with the naked eye or feel with a fingernail any imperfection that may have originated the fracture either.

All the more reason they need to see it. I put my S110V Manix 2 Lightweight through **** in my back yard, I wouldn't say it's outright prone to cracking. It may indeed break before it bends but it shouldn't crack from wiggling the pivot. I would assume something else cracked it and you're just now feeling it through wiggling it.Sjucaveman wrote:I can't see with the naked eye or feel with a fingernail any imperfection that may have originated the fracture either.

Yeah that's unusual. Send it in, it'll likely get replaced. I would call it a fluke, and I wouldn't worry about using S110V in the future. It's important that they get knives like this for evaluation to make sure there wasn't a production issue.

Thanks for the reassurance on s110v, I've loved how long it'll hold a functionally sharp edge and didn't wanna give up on it.Evil D wrote:Yeah that's unusual. Send it in, it'll likely get replaced. Holy crow. That's definitely not normal. I've beaten up two separate s110v Manix's and never had any kind of issue.
Definitely send it in. I can't see any way that's not going to result in a replacement.

So of course I was told to ship it in for evaluation which would be useful to spyderco to evaluate if it's a broader issue, however this will cost me at minimum the shipping to them. Or I could return it to where i bought it for no charge and get a refund.

I broke a ZDP189 Endura doing stupid things with it. Still, it broke in a way that surprised me. I talked to Spyderco about it and sent it in, and Sal sent me an Aqua Salt for it and told me to try to break it. I failed :)Sjucaveman wrote:So of course I was told to ship it in for evaluation which would be useful to spyderco to evaluate if it's a broader issue, however this will cost me at minimum the shipping to them. I'd try Spyderco. You might end up getting a straight replacement, or maybe you'll get a surprise like I did. That Aqua Salt ended up being one of my top 3 Spydercos of all time, and previously I had written it off as a boating knife.
Shipping is only $5-7 anyways.

Unless you're shipping from overseas. Europe, Asia etc.Vivi wrote:Shipping is only $5-7 anyways.
Re: Manix 2 s110v fluke?
My Native in s110v was so prone to chipping that I just decided to make it my beater in the garage and currently the basement since it’s been -30 Celsius or colder most of the winter. I use it for scraping, light prying, cutting through wire, anything I don’t want to mess up my other knives on and it’s held up quite well actually. The unchipped sections stay sharp until it gets too many chips and I give the whole thing a resharpen to eliminate them. (Usually I touch up my knives a number of times on the double stuff in between sharpening but this thing only gets resharpened as necessary). I think your cracked blade would be an unusual occurance with s110v especially because the pics don’t appear to show that you’ve abused the knife.
If you're wielding the sharpest tool in the shed, who's going to say that you aren't...?
