It's been a month since I posted. Hope all of you are well and as lucky as I have been so far.
It seems to me that a person does not get Covid 19. Covid 19 gets them.
This sparsely populated county in which I live, tucked into the verge of the Piney Woods
and Post Oak Savannah ecosystems, has mercifully had few cases of the China Virus.

My next Beer of the Month Club care package should be arriving soon.

I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. Probably because I drink beer because it's simple.
Open container. Drink contents. But it dawned on my that the ClipiTool Standard
is the goto tool for a traditional Corona with lime and salt. Corona bottles require a cap lifter
and you cut the lime with the blade. The salt should not require a tool. Salud!

This is a tough job but somebody has to do it.

Sometimes you just have to take one for the team.
In this case, I violated my two beer limit and drank three to be sure.

Faithful readers, here is the verdict.
It's great, if you like punch. It's a chick beer.
On the other hand, if it makes her clothes fall off, well, it was worth it.

On this Veterans Day, you may seem some veterans wearing baseball hats.

The Vietnam Service Ribbon on a hat that carries the legend "Vietnam Veteran" crowns the head of a veteran who actually served in Vietnam during the period 1961 to 1974.

Pictured on this thread on the 4th of July, 2018 is my "Vietnam Era Veteran" hat with the National Defense service ribbon awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces for any honorable active federal service anywhere during the Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and the Global War on Terrorism. Those campaigns each had their own ribbons for people who served in country. So, it always felt like stolen valor when I wore that hat because most people do not appreciate the distinction between "Vietnam Veteran" and "Vietnam Era Veteran".

Then I found the "Cold War Veteran" hat pictured below, also with the National Defense Service ribbon. The Cold War lasted from 1947 to 1991. (There is a Cold War Victory Medal and ribbon, but it is not for official wear by U.S. active duty personnel. Some National Guard units wear it.)

The Cold War was my war. I was stationed in West Germany 1970-1972, a counterintelligence Special Agent in U.S. Army Military Intelligence. We wore suits and ties and carried a badge and credentials. On one side of the National Defense Service ribbon is a miniature of the branch insignia for Military Intelligence. On the other side is a miniature of the badge we carried.

An Ed Schempp dagger like Spyderco Euroedge worthy of a counter-espionage agent graces the picture. The beer is in a stein, albeit a small one, more suggestive of Germany. It was the greatest two years of my life. I should have stayed in. Prosit to all my fellow veterans.

"Pouring a well hazed orange hue... boasts quite a robust head of rocky, persistent foam that drops plenty of lace as it slowly recedes to a lasting collar. In the flavor department, citrus zest add a deep resinous herbal character take prominent roles, merging into a fairly bold hop bitterness to grasp the palate firmly and keep this brew dry into the finish, which lingers with notes of grapefruit zest. The malt backbone is straightforward but robust, providing plenty of satisfying heft to support the bright hop notes without overshadowing them.

For pairing considerations, there is enough hop bitterness here to stand up to spicy dishes like chicken tacos with mango salsa and a dash of diced serranos, Thai lemongrass soup, or Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls with a spicy dipping sauce."

Gosh, I wish I had read that before I drank it.

Did you miss me? I've been, uh... preoccupied but I'm back.

Let me start with an exciting, new found application for the multi-function ClipiTool Standard, the hitch pin clip pulling tool. For a weak old man like me, this makes removing stubborn, difficult-to-get-to hitch pin clips from tractor attachments a breeze. Notice that the can cutting blade and screwdriver are not abused in the process.

With this virus going around and the self quarantining, my beer shopping has been severely limited. Friday I'm breaking out however and should have some new brewskies to photograph.

In the meantime, here is another armorer tool picture. The large flat blade was just the right thinness to fit the screws on my old rifle. After more than 50 years of service and neglect, the firing pin retaining pin came out and a loose firing pin and spring created a massive jam. Being housebound, I had plenty of time and with a few new parts and YouTube videos I was back in business. The buttplate was the finishing touch.

Thank you. A Type 1, my Dad bought it for me in 1967 when they first came out.
Initially only available in 30-06, a couple of bucks and a number of coyotes and hogs have fallen to it.

It also served me one day in a double-National High Power Rifle match in 1994
firing more than 100 rounds to qualify for at that time a DCM M1 Garand, limit one per lifetime,
which was delivered to my office the day the Clinton Crime Bill and assault weapons ban passed.

The law did not affect the M1 Garand but the irony was not lost on me.
I'm on probation so that's as far as I dare rant.

The DCM became the CMP and Garands are easier to buy now.

I picked up a field grade 5.8 million Springfield about a dozen years ago. It's a fun rifle and I couldn't beat the price.

Northerners are accustomed to months of snowy, wintery conditions and freezing temperatures.
But when it happens down here in God's country, we are not prepared.

Record low temperatures, snow on the solar panels, frozen wind turbines
and even frozen natural gas in the pipelines caused by global warming
left many Texans freezing in the dark and brought traffic to a standstill.

That is except for the 130 car pileup on I-35 south of Fort Worth
because of a little ice on an overpass. We don't know how to drive on the slick stuff
and snow plows, de-icing chemicals, road salt, snow tires and chains are unheard of down here.
(They do have some sand to spread on the sky climbs.)

Fortunately, this naturalized Texan in far northwest, deep east Texas caught a break.
Only lost power for about an hour and, though some pipes froze, still had cold water in the kitchen.
Most importantly, I had laid in a supply of emergency beer.

July of last year saw the premier of this brew on our thread
but the label has changed and I felt like it deserved an encore.
