Rough idea on age of a Spyderco Whetstone

#1

Post by Candyman »

Hello all!!
I was wondering whether any of you can help me on a rough idea of when these particular Whetstones were made. I recently acquired these. I've been looking and see a lot of the black and blue cases but not a lot of info on the ones in the wood case. The gentleman I got them from said he's had them for quite a while. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Rich (Candyman)

Thanks Sal! I appreciate the response! Very happy to have acquired it. Excited to lay some steel down on them.

Rich,

Nice find! Sal is right. These stones are from the mid-'80s. I have a number of the same ones. Spyderco also made other stones in Redwood.

For instance, do you have item #: 301VF, too? (Very Fine Grit Bench Stone - 2"x4"x1/2" White stone ground flat to .0005. Custom Redwood Box.) It was the most expensive stone Spyderco offered at that time. It was used to sharpen medical and dental tools.

Best,

He who walks in the company of fools suffers a long way; company with fools, like an enemy, is always painful; company with the wise is pleasure, like meeting with kinsfolk. Therefore, one ought to follow the wise, the intelligent, the learned, the much enduring, the dutiful, the elect; one ought to follow a good and wise man as the moon follows the path of the stars.

--Buddha, The Dhammapada, Chapter XV, Verses 207-208.
