Does anyone have any thoughts, comments or recommendations about kitchen spydies. Hey if I carry on or two spydies with me everywhere I go, I should probably check out one for any KP duties!

I have a couple of the serrated Spyderco kitchen knives. My wife likes the smaller one (K05) with the red handle. The bigger one (K04) has a more agressive serration pattern and came SCREAMING sharp from the factory. She doesn't want anything to do with that one. I don't really blame her. It is one scary sharp knife.

I bought my dad two of them, the bread knife and the small utility. Very good knives, sharp and easy to use.

And my mom went right ahead and cut herself with both of them!

I'll second Samo's vote for the Santoku. It is my absolute favourite knife in the kitchen, don't know how I ever lived without it <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. I also have a Paring knife and a small PE Utility, both of which see a lot of use (the PE Utility has been discontinued so you better move quickly if you want one). The only one I don't like much is my large SE Utility as I find it to be too flexible and the serrations pull the cut off to one side. OTOH it is my wife's favourite knife so what do I know.

My wife has had a Santoku for about a year and loves it. For Valentine's Day I bought her a fairly complete set to go with it:
Bread Knife SE
Chef's Knife PE
Carving Knife SE
Large Utility PE
Small Utility PE
Paring Knife PE

She is absolutely thrilled. The small utility seems to get the most use, but all of them are used regularly. Now I'm thinking about adding a large and small utility in SpyderEdge to the set.

I am sad that so many of the kitchen knives were discontinued. I have several friends who are hunting around trying to complete sets.

mmm... maybe, just maybe, Spyderco should come out with a professional cook's set with the Santoku, Cook's knife, utility 3 & 4 in a beautiful carrying case, well, like the kitchen Spyderpac or something like that which comes 'complete' with a 'galley' sharperner.. *heh-heh!* I love outdoor cooking and these knives are a must!

forshcner knives are better. I have both spyderco and forshcner knives. forsheners are more heavy duty.they are the meatcutters choice. they are cheaper, also.

I just acquired a K05 and K04. My wife found them very sharp.
Bob Q. Check out johnfjensen for those discontinued knives. It's where I got my PE.

I love my Sankoku, I use it every day at work. I've had it for about 4 months now and haven't had to sharpen it yet, just hone with a steel. An excellent knife!
