I guess the Spy-DK is our new knife. Yay ( nice knife - I have one - just saying)... and I guess I have a bigg-*** collection of illegal things I can't use.Liquid Cobra wrote:This reminds me of sals Canada knife thread. Your knives are still legal Jazz. Just don’t bring them across the border back into Canada if you leave. The Canadian laws have not changed, only the CBSA’s interpretation of them.Jazz wrote:I guess the Spy-DK is our new knife. Suppose Spyderco starts building "Canadia Specials" where the pivots are tightened to an insane torque setting with the expectation that they will be loosened by the end user.

So if I travel to montana I can only carry a Slipjoint? What about buying knives for american dealers? I'm honestly curiousLiquid Cobra wrote:Your knives are still legal Jazz. If you bring a knife back to Canada that the CBSA seems prohibited they will seize it.

Just tighten the pivot so it doesnt flip?... I realize there is a few that dont adjust. Besides, Ive been across the boarder atleast 30 times and have only once been asked to step out of my car. They didnt even check me. US border patrol was more interested checking the trunk for a moose.

No, they specifically said that even tightening the pivot is not allowed because it can be loosened, again.

Sounds like the only way to start reversing this. Equally important is getting as many voters as you know to appreciate modern folding knives as tools and not weapons. For the vast majority of the non-pocket-knife using public, a pocket knife is a SAK, and they can't imagine a reason why you'd need anything else, especially if it's black/pointy.bacmapei wrote:I just got home and was able to do enough reading to figure out the Kershaw Skyline was the model in question. Does Canada have something like KnifeRights?

Re: CBSA going after flipper type opening
I'm a conspiracy nut so take this with a grain (or wheel-barrow) of salt but this isn't too far outside the realm of possibility, especially in this country:
1. Some politician in the government has a burr up their @$$ and decided he/she doesn't like the fact that people can carry a "quick deploying" knife. Maybe someone used a knife in a food court to cut a Teen-Burger in half for their kid in a mall and that politician saw it.
2. Said politician rams through a secret directive to get rid of knives but the problem is they are legal so what to do? Do what politicians do best, **** the laws and make up your own. The CBSA is accountable to no one it seems so give them the order to stop perfectly legal knives from entering the country.
3. The directive stops importation of knives from that "hot bed of violence" south of the border. Current knives will stay but if for whatever reason (think warranty) they leave the country, they will be seized upon trying to re-enter. Then over time, knives will become less popular as they will be impossible to get.
4. After one hand opening locking knives have all but disappeared, we will have the same laws in effect as the UK, just slip-joints and SAKS.
Now don't get me wrong, I do like my SAKs and Case knives too but hey come on.
However, I can see an enterprising individual up here starting up an authorized warranty depot for Spyderco, Benchmade, Buck, Gerber, KAI, et al. and we all just send our knives there to get fixed.
There now I will retreat back into the shadows and hide from the NSA and CISIS.

I wonder how they will rule this for incoming packages. I ship knives across the border from time to time for a friend.

I hate to say it, but I always knew assisted openers and flippers were bad news for all of us. Not to mention people who flick and show off in front of non knife people. Some are going to be mad at me for that, but it's true. We need discretion in this day and age. If not, here's the crap we get, but don't worry, the people who use knives for evil will still get them, even if we can't. What a treat. Sorry, can you tell I'm upset?

If you think they're going to let you carry some little slipjoint after everything else is banned I think you're going to be disappointed.Jazz wrote:... We need discretion in this day and age...
The problem isn't flippers.

It sounds to me like CBSA is suffering from SSD(Sensitive Snowflakes Disease). It's spreading all over the globe. It's only a matter of time until it's everywhere. I feel for you guys up north.
Time for another :spyder:!
