Re: Spyderco Knife Of The Year 2017
Always a great thread and thanks to my good buddies LC and Jon for ensuring it made its timely appearance! :) Another great year for Spyderco in 2017, although we suffered some major losses in the discontinued list this year. I have never seen supply for a knife evaporate so quickly like it did once the Slysz Bowie got the axe! And of course, it was just my luck to have sold my only backup just a few days previous to it being disco'd!! (I thought it was safe since it didn't make the initial list!)
My 2017 Spyderco KOTY is the Fluted Carbon Fiber Native 5 :D!!! So much impressive engineering went into this one! Linerless construction! Fluted CF that's light as a feather! Cheers to Halpern Titanium who is still my best guess for who produces the fluted Ti and CF frames for Spyderco. Do I dare dream that a FLUTED CF MILITARY may happen?!?
Honorable mentions:
1. Police 4 - so awesome!!! I didn't think I'd like this one nearly as much as I do! Amazing ergos and a huge stick of K390 to boot! Now if I could only find someone new to make me some custom Micarta scales for it...
2. The MAXAMET N5 and PM2! I've long wanted a stonewashed rounded spine PM2 blade and Sal and co. gave us one in this crazy stuff! I've really enjoyed the steel so far but I'll confess I haven't pushed it at all since I don't want to mess it up .
3. The Lightweight FRN Chaparral! Another one I didn't think I'd love as much as I do, but this one is SO FANTASTIC! The Chap has always been my business travel knife, and I know this new guy will see a lot of time getting radioactive!
4. Bob Lum Darn Dao! I just received mine the other day (#0087 :)) and it is just astounding. I haven't played with it much with the family on holiday this week but it is in a class distinctly all it's own - as are all the other Bob Lum designs!
Happy New Year to the Spyderco crew and all you Spydernuts! Cheers, Radioactive

Such a close race between hap40 caly, cruwear para 3, and the k390 urban.
My vote goes for the k390 urban.

Fluted CF Native 5
(Runners up HB Dragonfly, Cru wear Para 3) :D
I would have gone with the HB Dfly as my number one, but it's hard to compete with linerless fluted CF! Just a beautiful knife.

I love my Police4, but the beautifully-executed Shaman is something truly new and thus my candidate.

Overall, the red G10 M390 PM2 takes the cake! I'm still kicking myself...
After dying the scales deep red, my CPM Cruwear Para 3 comes in a close second place.
Of those I own, the Pakkawood series, the Delica specifically, is pretty much tied with the HAP40 Caly 3 for a close third place.
Honorable mention of those I own is the CPM M4 Manix 2.
Honorable mentions for those I don't own (yet) are the Lil'Native, Chaparral LW, and Police 4.

Re: Spyderco Knife Of The Year 2017
Well, my most carried on that list is the Cruwear Para 3 but when I saw the post my mind instantly went to the Wharncliffe Delica. With the long thread about that knife that culminated in a popular new desing that was inspired by Jazz and the forum banter that he started, that is the one design that really seems like the most notable of the year to me. I fully expected it to have tons of votes and I'm quite surprised that I'm the first one to mention it.

Excellent point, Lance! The birth of a new design, developed by a member of the community, deserves heaps of respect and probably the award for knife of the year! I wish I had thought of it.Surfingringo wrote:Well, my most carried on that list is the Cruwear Para 3 but when I saw the post my mind instantly went to the Wharncliffe Delica. Re: Spyderco Knife Of The Year 2017
Another vote for the Sliverax.
Re: Spyderco Knife Of The Year 2017
Delica4 VG-10 Wharncliffe SpyderEdge Lightweight Black FRN (Japan)
Re: Spyderco Knife Of The Year 2017
Not sure I'm seeing it but I vote the 100 Pacer. It is a knife I will probably never own but if I had some free cash or was still trapsing around the woods a lot, definitely would!
Beautiful design and yet another bold move by Spyderco.
The Chaparral LW would be a very close second but just for sheer balls, I vote the 100 Pacer.

Re: Spyderco Knife Of The Year 2017
Well, I have to say Delica Wharncliffe PE VG10 (not because of my involvement), because it just works, as a knife should. Thanks, Sal.
- best wishes, Jazz.
Re: Spyderco Knife Of The Year 2017
I'll have to vote for: ParaMilitary2 M390 Red G-10 DLT Trading (USA)
The color, feel and steel are a great combo. It's hard to vote for something I haven't at least held.
My Manix 2 LW s110v would be a close second with Manbug Hap40 and Dragonhawk Salt not far behind.
