My wife is currently using my shiny new Spyderco Jumpmaster to cut-up veggies ie carrots and green beans.
Does that mean she approves of my Spyderco purchases ?

It depends on the condition of the edge when she is done...

Did you look in her eyes?

That's the look of love.
Now get her some Spyderco kitchen knives, and a folder or two.

WAF is +1

(Spyderco forum may need a marriage counseling subforum. It's a love/hate thing.
Could boost sales.)

kind regards,

My wife asks to borrow my knife quite often and she has said on many occasions that she is glad I carry one. I don't think she approves of me owning a trunk load of them. :o

She has learned to appreciate the difference between a dull knife, a sharp knife and razor sharp knife. I knew we had made real progress when she started asking me to sharpen the kitchen knives because they were too dull. I knew we had broken through to the other side when she started telling me to sharpen the kitchen knives because they were not effortlessly slicing through tomatoes. ;) Does that make her and edge junky? :D

If she is using a Jumpmaster in the kitchen you need better kitchen knives. If she likes the serrated edge consider a K04 utility. It is thin and the serrations are much more suited to kitchen work. I have the blue handled one and my wife likes it a lot.

Yes, sharpening the kitchen knives is a great service for the cooks in your life. They get more use than most folders do.

This is pretty much exactly what my wife experienced after I got my Sharpmaker for Christmas a couple of years ago. She went from being happy that the kitchen knives weren't 7 or 8 years of dull to noticing when the tomatoes squish slightly instead of slicing cleanly.

She also carries her own N5 LW every day, so we've come a long way. :)

While my wife won’t carry or use mine, she does tell me the kitchen knives are dull & not slicing salmon effectively.

Hi Jacala,

Welcome to our forum.

As Spydergirl mentioned, get her serrated K04 and she'll give you back your Jumpmaster.

+1 on the K04! My girl loves the K04s & K05 that I got for Christmas last year. She uses them everday.

My wife thinks I am Spydie-nuts, but immediately confiscated my black Ladybug as soon as she saw it. She also plans to steal my soon to arrive Panchenko Dog Tag. I am hiding my Roadie from her for the time being. :D

She sees the value now in a sharp blade for food prep, opening plastic packages (we have a 5 year old daughter, so that means lots), breaking down cardboard, etc.

She is also currently using my Para 3 whenever she cuts limes and lemons for cocktails, so maybe Sal’s K04 idea is worth exploring. A **** of a lot cheaper than my Spydercos too. :)

Thanks Sal and thanks guys and gals.
I've been a "spyderco lurker" for a few years but I'm now hooked.
I've promised the "chief cook and bottle washer" that I will buy her
a K04 and a K05 in the New Year.
