On tybee island GA i bought a 940 ,this thing,with the flick of the wrist,open so fast,it's ligtning fast,what do you guys think would challenge this knife in the spyderco line up?i am in the south of usa for the winter there are so many stores selling knife(compare to québec)i am going to go back home in april with a few more spyderco :cool:

PM2 and Manix 2, no doubt.

Agreed on the PM2 and Manix2. If all you care about is a fast action and a light knife, check out an Ontario Dozier Arrow - I much prefer over a 940. For a hard use knife a PM2/Manix2 is hard to beat.

The axis lock is incredibly smooth by design, especially if you tweak the pivot. I have a 551-1 that will almost fall open. None of my spydercos will do that. That may be a good thing :)

I have a couple of PM2s that are close to it. Breaking them in is key.

I just never got the appeal of that knife. Must be one of those faces only a mother can love. Could be the ugliest knife BM has ever made.

If you only look at the lower lines of the handle and blade edge, they’re a pretty close match.

The 940 is more space efficient and easier to close, while the Gayle Bradley 2 is the better cutter/slicer with better fit and finish.

I never thought that was an appealing knife. I purchased the 960 instead to serve as a gent's knife back in 2005.

The 943 is much better imho but the tip looks too fine. I've never seen/ held one in person though.

No, fast action is not the only thing i care about,buy it's certainly a lot of fun to close and open a folder that is smooth like butter,this one is not as loud on locking as my spyderco so i can play a lot longer before my wife yell STOPPP ITTT!!! :D
Btw,i think this knife is beautifull

The GB2 is smooth as glass and feels like it has washers made of air. I also think it looks similar.

The 940 does not appeal to me aesthetically either but it is a slim knife that packs a good size blade in small package. I think that is part of it's success.

If you can find a Sage3 it is also smooth as butter and has a quiet lock that may not aggravate your wife.

I waited on purchasing a 960..and it was gone. One of those things I regret. Never liked the 940s.

If you were to only carry one knife on a day where you needed some discretion but didn't quite know what the day would bring (but not a survival scenario), then the 940 is a very good option. I attended a couple of weddings where they needed some help with decorations and whatnot and it just zipped through bags, streamers, cardboard, twine, strings, blister packs, prying staples, cutting fruit, etc.

It's a very space efficient and visually quiet package for a fairly long and stout blade (vertically short sabre grind).

I sold off my 940-1 earlier this year when I got a smaller office carry option, as the 940-1 wasn't doing anything too different from my GB2. Now I get to carry both and have one for heavier tasks and one that is more non-knife-person friendly.

I recently got a 940-1501 and basically took it out of the box and put it right back in. It's just not for me. Can't describe it because I've had other BMs I liked, griptilians and such. I don't mind a skinny knife either, I think the sum of the 940 parts just didn't add up for me. Consequently, LMK if anyone wants a 940-1501, lol!

I keep buying spydercos (and other knives) but nothing is as good as the 940. PM2 is the spyderco I have that is the closest to the action of the 940.

With all due respect to Spyderco, nothing as ever carried more comfortably in my pocket than a 940.
