The 2018 Spyderco catalog is now live! For me, the heart-stopping new knife is the PARATA!! Another amazing Paul Alexander design with the Stop Lock, Paul you’ve been holding out on us! Bravo!

Let’s talk about this beauty with that Caly-style handle!! :D

Yup, my favourite knife in the catalog for sure. I remember we got to see it at the Oregon knife show, I guess you forgot in your excitement. :D

Two things though. Does the blade look like that, or is it a printing error near the tip? Looks like it’s doubled. Second thing, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was disappointed this knife isn’t being made in Taichung.
Most recently acquired: Military 2, Paramilitary 2 Tanto x2, YoJUMBO, Swayback, Siren, DLC Yojimbo 2, Native Chief, Shaman S90V, Para 3 LW, Ikuchi, UKPK, Smock, SUBVERT, Amalgam, Para 3 CTS-XHP, Kapara, Paramilitary 2 M390
Grail Paramilitary 2 M390 X 2! ACHIEVED!!

Definitely a printing error, look at the thumb hole and the handle spine.

I love Paul Alexander's designs, but in this case....

It's kinda like an ouroboros was violated by a Cold Steel Colossus.

Other than that I'm sure this one will perform superbly well as his others do! This ones not for me, but congrats on the new design!

That is a most curious printing error. They must have been working off a digital rendering. The tang stamp is reflected inside the hole, not a physical possibility.

The handle looks great! The stop lock is intriguing too. But I'm not thrilled by the blade shape. It's certainly interesting but definitely not for me.

That's a whole lotta blade belly. Like an Ouroboros crossed with and ulu, or the Spyderco Maddox, though both of those have handles at the spine/different technique and application of force.

I'm unsure of the breadth and depth of the niche which it may fill--but good luck, Paul!
Also reminds me of a baleen bellyful:

I like it too! I preordered one but my experience with KC and preorders has not been good but I'll keep my fingers crossed on this one. :)

As soon as I thought my Spyderco collection was complete... hats off to Paul again! Looks amazing. The thing that intrigues me the most is the first ever Spyderco with the Stop Lock! How could I not get it???? My main wish... Cru Wear or S30V steel rather than VG-10. Not bad... but not everything I would personally desire. I also wonder if it will be on bearings, PB washers or Teflon like what the Ouroboros is that's also out of Japan. Can you weigh in Paul?

This is probably my favorite new design in the catalog. I've loved everything Paul has designed so far, so I'll definitely be picking this knife up.

So does this mean the Military 2 could debut within the next catalog or two?

I am staring at the closed knife, and I can't figure out where Paul is hiding all that belly. Sorcery. More packaging magic.

I'm curious about the new lock. Wonder how it's working?
Overall design of this knife is not my cup of tea:( Blade very wide, all belly, thin handle, don't look good together IMHO

I loved it at BLADE. The ergos we're superb. The lock works great too. This will have a drop shut action for sure.

I looked, too.

How does the stop lock work?
