Which Dragonfly?

#1

Post by spyderwolf »

My beloved DF frn is gone.A friend of mine nagged me a gave me the puppy eyes until i finally gifted it to him.
Anyway, now its time for a new one,and i want to ask you guys if i should give the SS version a try.The G10 is out off the question, because of the price.

FRN for sure. I have the SS and G10, and the extra weight kills the magic of the the DF2 for me. The FRN DF2 is one of my all time favorites and if youre looking for a change the Salt H1 or even the new Hawkbill could do it. I'm guessing a sprint HAP40 is out of your price range.

Voted FRN, but the OD green / G-10 model is a tank too

I have both FRN and SS. FRN for the win. The SS is solid as a rock, but the added weight is of no benefit and the SS does not have jimping at all. Not a bad knife, just the FRN is better. No interest in the G10 from me

Although the DF2 FRN is the best Spyderco folder I have owned, I might be tempted to wait for the FRN Chaparral. It is possible the cost might be close to the DF2 FRN model. Or not. But, if you are set on a new DF2, I would also vote for the FRN model.

The frn beats the g10 version hands down, for me, anyhow. Especially in hap40....

FRN PE ZDP-189 or SE H1. Both of those are affordable and exceptional. ZDP if you're a fan of high initial sharpness and edge retention, H1 for rust proof and toughness. ....There's also the Hawkbill Dragonfly :D

The clip position on the SS makes it a bit harder to one hand open. It's too far forward. I wish Sal would redesign it to exactly like the FRN, including the wire clip. Otherwise, it's a really nice knife. Because of that, I say FRN, until Sal fixes it.
- best wishes, Jazz.

I do not care for the slippery and heavy stainless models, unless they are going to be engraved. I like the FRN far more. The one I like the best is the G10 Foliage Green model. However, of the two in the poll, the FRN is clearly the top choice.

One of my favorite watch pocket knives for years has been an ATS55 PE in SS with the clip removed. Superthin, plenty strong, capable of cutting tasks which belie its diminutive size. Also favor gen 1 FR with SE (AUS8, which is as stalwart as an old friend).

Overall new champ is HAP 40 Dfly. (the Dragonhawk is a different beast.)
